Scary ride warnings???????

Hi,
I have a four year old who is afraid of the dark. Many rides are either all in the dark or have parts that are dark. I am worried DS will freak out a lot. Can anyone help me out with some of the rides I have not been on yet? Specifically:

Haunted Mansion (I know, I should have gone on this one one of the four times I've been to Disney. I haven't for fear it is really scary. Is it?)

Spaceship Earth

The Land

Maelstrom

El Rio Del Tiempo

Buzz Lightyear

Snow White

Also, what can you tell me about Indy? Is that scary?

Thanks!

Hi,

I just came back with all my little cousins, ages 7, 5 and 4, all going through their own little "stages" LOL

Here's my opinions:

Haunted Mansion: depends...the 7 year old was freaked, the 5 year old was nervous, the 4 year old loved it. You may want to ride that first alone is possible so you know what to expect. It really helped them when I explained "oh, see the dog, isn't he scary", look for hidden Mickey's etc.

Spaceship Earth: Nothing scary, but it runs 20 mins, so the attention span may not be good. Point out certain smell, like Rome burning.

The Land: Food Rocks is really cute, the Lion King movie was also a hit with them. This one is a good one too.

Maelstrom: Too many trolls. LOL

El Rio Del Tiempo: Somewhat boring, it's like the Mexican version of Small World. Not too dark

Buzz Lightyear: A Must Do!!! You'll have as much fun on this as your child. You shoot at "Z" targets with your own lazer guns. This is the favorite ride of everyone in my family.

Snow White: Scared the hell out of me when I was 5. I would say no for this one.

Indy: Isn't scary, but loud. The explosions may bother DS.

I also suggest for little ones:
Goofy's Barnstormer
Muppet Vision 3D
Playhouse Disney show
Country Bears (big bears equal big laughs)
Pooh

Let me know if you need any more info!

I can see that. My daughter is 7 going on 8 and she's much more scared now than when she was 4. It really does depend on the child. She's going through the stage of being scared of everything. She's so excited about WDW (we're going the end of April) but I'm really starting to worry about how she'll do. Thanks for the ride info.

Haunted Mansion: if you explain things and make it funny to him, he will probably like it.
SE: totally fine, but again a little bit of talking to him and pointing things out.
Maelstrom: scary and boring for him and for adults too! The ride is scary and the second part makes it too long. hehe
Snow White: I wouldn´t do it.
Peter Pan is dark too, but flying is awesome!! I´m sure he will like it.
El Rio del Tiempo is totally harmless.
The Land: if you mean the ride in the "boats", it is cool, not really dark as far as I remember.

Definitely, don´t take him to Alien Encounter! ;)

Haunted Mansion: It is dark and there are spooky parts, but he should be ok. There is nothing terrifying on it. There will be more trouble with Snow White

Spaceship Earth: Dark, but not scary at all (DS will probably like it)

The Land: There is nothing dark here, except for the beginning of living with the land and it is very short (DS will probably like this too)

Maelstrom: Has a little hill and there are trolls. He might be scared, but I think that he/she should go back in.

El Rio Del Tiempo: Not dark at all except for the very beginning and other parts are like Small World. Just tell hom/her that the ride is like small world and they will go on. (They will probably love this ride)

Buss Lightyear: No darkness and they will have a great time shooting and spinning the car.

Snow White: This might be a little scary, because there is a lot of darkness and the witch appears a lot.

I have never ridden that ride, but just from reading the forums it doesn't sound like I want to take my daughter on it. What is it like? Is it scarier than HM?

Snow White is a dark ride, same thing as Mr. Toad but Snow White. Only thing I remember is the wicked witch, so I guess it's considered scary. I would avoid it just because it's not worth waiting in line for.

Snow White is dark and has moments where the witch appears surprisingly. If your daughter liked the movie though, i recommend riding it, because Snow White and the dwarves are in it and the ending is nice. It is better now than it was a few years ago. The old ride (before the rehab) didn't even have snow white.

my first trip to disney world was when i was 4 and the only rides that I was afraid of were:
snow white
haunted mansion
catastrophy canyon (the whole fire/water thing)

i also would not recommend you going on alien encounter (i still wont go on it!!)

just let him/her meet mickey/minnie and they'll have the best time of their lives!! :D

I Have been to disney ever since I was a year old and it depends on what age you are for things to be scary, boring, or fun.

Spaceship Earth ~ When i was little i used to be scared of it because i thought it was a roller coaster that went upside down. Now I know that it is a slow moving ride, that is about 20 minutes and at times can get boring. *Some parts are very dark

The Land ~ It is not at interesting when you are a little kid because you do not appriciate nor understand what is being said (also you are tired from the long waits). But as you get older you can appreciate and comprehend what is going on. It is certainly not scary.

Maelstrom ~ Is a very interesting ride for all ages. It is a quick little ride, and you get to see many trolls. Also there is a little drop that adds a twist into the story line.

:lookaroun El Rio De Tiempo ~ If you are into the mexican like stuff, it's really interesting, if not it is a good way to get cooled off, with a little hint of the dolls from "It's a Small World". Definately not scary

Buzz Lightyear ~ A MUST DO. No doubt about it that ride is the best ride for interactive fun, and to get cooled off. It is a like a big video game, where you get to shoot down targets and rack up the points to be a real "Space Cadet", with Buzz Lightyear.

Snow White ~ When I was little this ride scared the living sh*t out of me. But now as i am older it is a really pretty cool ride. It is best for older people as to scare little kids. But if you kids think you are so tough, go ahead have fun, but don't say you weren't warned.

Indy ~ Is a pretty cool or should i say hott attraction. It can get a little hot so stay towards the back. Sounds and sights (some) may be a little intimidating to young viewers to be prepared. :fork:

Maelstrom, and Snow White...Snow White is more scary than the Haunted Mansion I think...I remember crying on the HM when I was little because of the non-smiling people...

If your 4yo is REALLY scared of the dark, you may have a problem on some of those rides. We were just there with a 5 and a 3 yo, and also brought them 2 years ago. I would pass on HM. It's not scary for adults, but would scare most 4 yo's. The Land is not scary at all, just boring. I would avoid Maelstrom. The ride is too short and not very intersesting and is pretty scary, with much of it in the dark. Spaceship Earth is dark in parts but is pretty tame. He should be able to handle it but don't make it your first ride. Buzz is awesome, very colorful inside. I have mixed feelings on Snow White. I think they simmered it down a bit, only once right at the start does the witch pop out at you. My girls who are pretty sensitive to such stuff really had no problem with it especially when I warned them that they would see the witch a lot. I agree with the earlier post that if he enjys the movie, you should really give it a go.

Alien Encounter is definately out. No one under 10 should be allowed in. Watch out for Peter Pan and Pirates- very dark in both.

I would start off on outdoor rides(Dumbo, TeaCups, Tommorrowland Speedway-which a 4yo boy will love, AstroOrbitor, Alladin, then move to the easier indoor rides like Pooh, Small World, and then try the darker like Peter Pan,etc. By that time he will be acclimated.
