>>A popular unofficial Disneyland event that annually attracts thousands of devotees of the Goth lifestyle will be scaled back and most elements eliminated after Sunday’s final event, its founder says.....

“We just can’t afford to do it anymore,” event founder Noah Korda, said. “The tax laws have changed.”

Korda, 47, a designer from Van Nuys, canceled all the elements of this year’s weekend, except for a Bats Day meetup at the park on Sunday, May 6 and a 7 p.m. “The Final Wake” on Saturday at the Hyatt Regency Orange County for those who want to say goodbye.

“We do this out of the kindness of our hearts,” Korda said about the annual event. “Any money we make gets rolled into the next year.”...

Saturday night’s “wake” at the Hyatt is open to all, Korda said. It’s free with a no-host bar. Sunday’s meetup will include a scaled-down group photo by the Sleeping Beauty Castle at 7 p.m. He said he plans to stage Bats Day in the future as a simple once-a-year meetup, so Goths can still get together. Meanwhile, those who are so inclined can meet Saturday night to mourn.

“The wake is a small get-together that’s free and for all ages,” Korda said. “I felt it was my responsibility to have it.”

I happened to be at the park on one of these days a couple years ago and walked by the castle when they were doing their group photo. It was... interesting... to say the least.

The way I understand it, all the special events will no longer be offered.

I think that once or twice a year, a park meet will happen, and maybe a group photo.

One year, I was lucky enough to be one of the photographers for the weekend, an interesting weekend to say the least. I loved the family events the best, including the Carrousel photo.

Bats day needs to integrate with Dapper Day. It’s almost the same thing. They schedule on a hot day. They need to look at the weather forecasts for cooler days.

Dapper Dans and Goth Day are two VERY different things.... I can just see the Goth's Swing Dancing....

Bats Day got moved for a couple of reasons, one was the fact that many of the organizers and attendees work Halloween Haunt, and a Fall date wasn't good for them.

The second was the changes in the lowest tier AP's, they picked a non-blockout Sunday for the SoCal AP's so as many people as possible could attend.

But I can see Bats Day moving to Knott's. They have the in's, and the cost of the SP is much more reasonable, and no blockout dates.

The Billy Hill fans have switched, and I see a lot more local kids BD parties at Knott's now. The large, open picnic area is perfect for these types of events. And Knott's will only care if they have already booked the tables.

So maybe next year, all the special events and main meet at Knott's on a Saturday, and a secondary meet at Disneyland on Sunday.

We shall see.

One more issue is how crowded the park has got.

Popular places to meet were the Plaza Gardens area prior to being converted to the Princess Meet and Greet, the Hub, and Coke Corner. All of which have become very hard to find room for 20 to 100+ people, which was an average meet for many groups at the turn of the century....

If Dapper Days went away that would do wonders for that weekend at the Parks. My family stayed at the Disneyland Hotel, fortunately for 5 days because the crowds were horrendous, and the addition of the Expo rendered the hotel and its premises useless. It was impossible for us to get food or service in a timely manner and going to the Parks was unspeakable.

Perhaps things would ease up if the expo was removed, but still...a thing i used to mildly enjoy just for people watching has really blown up into a massive event.

Large scale meet ups should have no place in Disneyland. They're the optimum of people feeling like the parks belong to them. Disney should ban such events from the parks but they never will because they're so profitable.

Normal people in their normal attire first!

I think we just happened to be at the park 3 or 4 times on Bats day...always interesting people watching. Like many events of this sort, the only real problem I had was the groups taking up space and doing nothing but sitting around, especially in front of the castle...well that and the longest lines ever at the Haunted Mansion : )

This guy who runs this Bat’s Day thing must employ the absolute worst tax man in America if he’s blaming 2018’s lowered personal and business tax rates for ending his event.

What a weird excuse to use, and it makes him seem either incompetent or untruthful as to the real reason behind the decision to end the event.
