Ah..the annual sale before the new versions come out. Don't get me wrong..LR4 is a great value, but some may want to wait 3 months for LR5.

I'm curious how many people upgrade everytime a new version pops up? I know I used to do that with some software but have found that sometimes I don't really see any point as sometimes the upgrades have very steep learning curves and don't offer much in return.

I actually do, mostly because the changes pile up. Each time you "skip" a version, you miss out on a lot of little changes that eventually change your entire workflow (Example: Smart Objects, Healing Brush, Content Aware Tool, and a few others have all changed from how they initially worked to how they operate now). With the Creative Cloud subscription, its not so much of an issue (as it automatically updates). Programs like lightroom are "cheap" so its not a huge hit.

No...where it hurts the most for my company are when our 3D suites get updated (Maya and all 3rd party render engines we use, XSI, Studio Max, Mudbox, and Mari). I could buy a car for less than our annual upgrade fees are on those combined. Its part of why we charge as much as we do ;)
