If only this kind of thinking was more common in regards to the parks..

"we just opened a park? Good. Now we have to make it bigger and better! Give em 2 weeks to ride, see, and do everything, then ONWARD HO!"

All long as DVC keeps selling, expect more and more expansion. Its a total Win-Win for Disney.

The owners buy in to the resorts, which covers the construction costs.

Then they pay yearly Maintenance which helps maintain the resort to Disney standards and then they have a room at Disney World for about 50 years. So that's where they are most likely to spend their vacations, and their money every year.

As a DVC member I just hope that they consider offering some new park entry discounts to DVC members. If they offered a discounted Annual Pass to DVC members I would come down at least twice a year.

All said and done, if maintenance fees remain the same, the total cost for the 50 years is in the neighborhood of $80k for 200 points.

DVC rates just went up to $95 per point to buy in. Dues depend on which resort you own but averages $5-6 per point per year.

We bought 170 pts (2 yrs ago) for about $12k and pay approx. $600 a year in dues. Our contract is for 40 years and that only comes to $36k.

we pay 600 per year in dues. (for 170 points) We planned on going once a year, a week each time. (Just what we had been doing before DVC.) Instead we ended up doing 3 trips in 10 months on annual pass, all with those DVC points (and a extra trip to Vero Beach a few months after that on points too.)

With banking and borrowing you have a lot of flexiblity. We really need more points, but with other expences (new baby, new addtion on house, new mini van) and Mrs. PhD being laid off from her part time job, it is not in the books for this year or next. So we are borrowing points alot, but hey there are a new 170 points every year and you don't waste any that way. I see an add on of 50 to 100 points in our future someday, resale. More points does mean more dues.

If you do studios you can really strech your points. 1 bedrooms and up, use up points fast, and they are about double on the weekends.

We added it all up and divided it over 40 years it comes down to around 5$ a point. (you can rent for average 10$ a point.) We just stayed at Vero Beach 5 night Sun-Friday for total of 50 points inn room, ocean view. Not bad I think.

How much you spend on each trip really depends on you. Some people do it much more economically then others. 3 trips in one annual pass, keeps the park rates down. Air fare adds up. We did credit card points our last trip and that really made it cheap.

You do save a couple hundred on food by stopping at the store and using the kicten in all DVC rooms.

Also, you can buy resale for much cheaper then the SSR 95 per point right now (link at www.disboards.com DVC forem. Timeshare store I belive, but there are others.)
