Saratoga Sale?

I am thinking of purchasing some add on points direct from Disney. I see that there is a current sale on AKV. Do these come often? Thinking if maybe waiting for a sale on SSR because I already own there so I would like to be able to combine the points at 11 months.

Can I ask why you’d buy direct from Disney? The resales are in free fall and it’s probably not close to the bottom…

What’s the advantage?

My family debated this quite a bit so will be interesting to get an alternative perspective.

We own a nice size contract at SSR, purchased resale. We want to add on as our 2 children are now young adults and going on trips with geor friends now too. I was thinking we should buy direct to get the blue card.... mostly because I want to ability to book any resort (when available of course). I am concerned with the unknown of what happens when the first resorts time out. Maybe too small a concern for the price difference between direct and resale?

Ok…that was the one scenario that I could think of…

The way your post sounded…I thought you had a direct contract prior?

You really need to see what Disney wants (I can only imagine) and crunch the numbers to what you can get resale? It’s usually a massive difference

The deals usually apply to resorts that are still on active sale or where DVC have bought back a lot of contracts in ROFR.

I think OKW is more likely be included again at some point as they try to take the 2042 contracts back to flip to 2057. There was a promotion a couple of years ago.

There again I don’t know why AKV is on promotion, maybe just a lot of contracts at a low price came on the market. So Saratoga may too.

They seem to happen relatively often and the "sales" aren't usually that great of a discount, even taking into account extra incentives that may be offered.

Over the past 18 months or so they've had different promotions for OKW (which was a pretty killer deal back in early spring 2024), SSR, AKV, Copper Creek, and BLT (from off the top of my head).

Here's my thing when it comes to those promotions on the older resorts: you're typically looking at prices (with the exception of that OKW deal) that may only be SLIGHTLY less than the newer/current "on sale" resorts like Riviera, Polynesian, Disneyland Hotel, Cabins at Wilderness Lodge, etc. so it may make more sense to purchase direct at one of those since you'll get a longer deed compared to SSR or AKV, but obviously it's totally up to you. It's possible they could run a sweet deal for SSR in the future like the OKW deal, but who knows. The last one they ran on SSR wasn't anything too good in my opinion.

FWIW we only own resale as well, but IF I had to choose a direct purchase right now (based on this current incentive cycle) I'd likely go with Riviera, but of course that's just my own personal take.

There are so many different ways to skin a cat when it comes to DVC and sometimes the toughest thing is finding out what works best for your own unique situation. :)
