Same-Day Car Rentals... Possible?

The people I am going to WDW with... more specifically, the people who are planning the trip to WDW in which I am also going... are planning on renting a car, without reservations, on the spot when we land at MCO on January 3rd.

I, as I have been with most of the planning of this trip, am skeptical of this plan. I have a pessimistic feeling that we will be stranded at MCO with no car (or worse, on a Mears bus or some smelly cab.)

What do you all think the odds are that we will successfully get a car on the spot? Is it all that necessary to make car rental reservations? Am I being paranoid?

HELP!!! (This is how I feel...)

make a reservation... you will get stuck paying their walkup rate which is usually more than double (sometimes 3x-4x+) than what you could have reserved for.

You don't need to leave a credit card number to reserve a rental car with most reputable agencies directly (ie- no priceline, no expedia, no hotwire, etc)

Definitely make the ressie (you don't even need to tell the rest of you crew about it until they found out how much more they'll pay ... they'll be so impressed). If that doesn't work and your still at the airport on Wednesday, you can ride with us!!!:sohappy:

Seriosuly. Just make the ressie yourself. I don't think it matters your age (if you are under 25.) It isn't like airline tickets. If you don't need it, you don't have to use it. There is not cacelation fee and you don't need your CC when you make it. I would never walk up, just because the price will be so much more.

But hey if they don't care at all about $ then it is there problem. There should be cars there, if not you can take a taxi or DME or some other transport there just fine. It might take longer and not go as smooth, but you will get there.

Just look at National or Alamo on line, They both are in the airport and are pretty good. We are renting Alamo this time, only because for some reason it was much cheaper. We normally get National (the line seems to be shorter.) The cars come from the same place for both of them.

Good luck, geting closer. :sohappy:

So close!!! I might give Alamo a call, just to see. Who knows, they don't even need to know I called, and it would give me some sense of... something.

Alamo is a zoo at MCO. Just a heads up.

Make a reservation... seriously. The price you're quoted over the phone will generally not be honored as a walkup. If you don't use the reservation, you don't get penalized.

Yes, I noticed that. The line at National is always much better (and we have always rented from them in the past.) However Alamo was a much better price this time (for some reason). So we figure the extra 20 min in line was worth over $100 of on the car.

I agree get the reservation, just to be safe. It isn't acutally that hard. If you want just call AAA and have them make it, but it can be done on line in 10 min and the entertainment book has an $20 off copon. Make sure it is the new book though.
