General Electric Co. (GE) broadcast arm NBC is still in talks to acquire the U.S. entertainment assets of France's Vivendi Universal (V). Several high-profile bidders remain involved in the slow-going auction, but NBC is regarded as a top contender.
GE + VUE: Blockbuster Or Bomb?GE's proposal - a merger of NBC and VUE operations, with Vivendi receiving a minority stake - is for all of VUE, according to one person familiar with the talks.
That includes not only TV production and cable networks, among them USA Network and the Sci Fi Channel - widely considered a good fit - but also VUE's theme parks and movie studio. Observers agree that they don't see NBC keeping the parks, as obvious synergies are lacking. "
