Hi all

Has anyone been on the safari at Disneys Animal Kingdom? Would you recommend a visit? Does anyone know if runs during the whole time the park is open?

Thanks everyone and have a great day :)

I took the ride last time down there. It was great. Saw a lot of animals and the driver was very knowledgeable. As I recall they mentioned that all the animals are brought in at night so I would imagine that there is a last ride sometime in the late afternoon. It is worth the time to take it.

Kilimanjaro Safari doesn't operate the full time the park is open. It will start running at park open, but will usually close before the park does. The actual closing time for any day should be posted on a sign on your way to the safari. It will say something like "Last safari departs at 4:30". This time does vary with the seasons and darkness, so you would need to look for the sign to know for any given day. Keep in mind that unlike most of the other rides at WDW, that is when the last vehicle will actually leave, not when they will close the line. So if 3:30 rolled around and they feel they have enough guests in line to fill all the vehicles until 4:30, they will close the line.

Getting on as early in the day as possible would be better. The lines grow long and the wait can be hot. You will see more of the animals out in the earlier part of the day. It is worth doing, lots of animals, lots of photo ops but you have to be ready and be quick to take the shot. The drivers dont give you lots of time in one spot and are on the move. When moving the vehicles also bounce around some.

I would definitely recommend the safari! It's one of my favorite things to do at WDW. But as previously stated, getting there early is always best. The animals are much more active.

The safari usually lasts about 15-18 Minutes, depending on how many stops along the way you make to see the animals. Also, try to ride earlier in the day, as the animals are more active in cooler temperatures.

I wouldn't recommend it. The big draw for the safari itself is the lions and elephants. Our last trip, we went on and yeah, no lions. Also, I know it's an open safari and the animals can be anywhere, but I had the unfortunate luck of being seated next to a moron who didn't play nicely with others. They tell you right at the start of the safari to be mindful of the people around you, well, I have a ton of shots of this morons cell phone. At one point he actually leaned over my gf, pretty much next to me and I just about swatted his phone out of his hand. If you've seen lions and elephants you'd have better luck going over to AKL and seeing animals there, IMHO.

Honestly, I've ridden Kilimanjaro Safari many times over the years and find that the animals are more active in the late afternoon. The closer you can go to the ride closing, the better your odds of being able to ride a few times consecutively without leaving the vehicle. It is really pleasant to ride close to sunset, and the animals seem to be moving more because the temps are cooling off for the day (relatively speaking) but also because they are trained to expect they'll be going indoors soon.

I never really thought of it being about the lions and Elephants, the lions are always impossible to see. I think the giraffes are the most interesting and I have had them stop numerous times in front of the truck or walk within 2 feet of the truck. I love watching the zebras run across the plain or get a rare sighting of the cheetahs. The great thing about this ride is that it is always slightly different. I think it is always worth it to try it out.

We've always had the best luck in the morning. The last two trips we've road it, the driver rushed through the entire thing. The last time was awful. It was more like that blur is gray, so it's probably an elephant. It was about as rough as space mountain. It's unfortunate, it's a great experience if you get a good driver.

Well, for me on this trip, we did a split stay and had a Savannah View room at Kidani. We had giraffes, zebras, cattle, birds, wildabeests, etc... So the safari was what it was. Now if I didn't have that guy I was talking about leaning all over the place with his galaxy phone or whatever it was videoing and taping, maybe I would've enjoyed the ride more, but even I know how to follow the rules of photo etiquette, not to mention, make sure everyone can see things that are down off to the sides...
