Well, my DD (12) and I are going to Universal in October. We are both die hard disney fans (don't worry, we're going to Disney in december) but we had a chance to go and I decided lets go for it.
My question is, I'm used to ADR's so when we go to Universal should I make reservations before we go. We do like to eat dinner in a nice restaurant and plan to go to City Walk. Can I wait and make reservations when we get there or do it before ?? Thanks for the help.

If you want a nice relaxed meal, CityWalk is usually not the place to go. I highly recommend (and I don't say that often) Mythos at Islands of Adventure. It is the best food at Universal and is equal if not better than Disney's, and much cheaper than you would pay at Disney for a meal that quality. I've eaten there four times, and every time was better than before. Be sure to order the Spinach Salad with blueberries and bacon vinaigrette. It is the best salad I've ever eaten in my life. However, Mythos is usually only open for lunch and is rarely crowded so ADRs are not needed. The worst case scenario is you may have to wait 10-20 minutes, but I doubt it.
I have eaten at Finnegan's Bar & Grill at Universal Studios, and it was good, but not great. The only restaurant I've eaten at at Citywalk is Margaritaville, which in my opinion was decent, but overpriced for what you got and noisy. If you want a nice meal at Citywalk Emeril's is your best bet. The Citywalk restaurants are much busier and though you won't help to have reservations in October, you might have to wait 10-30 minutes during peak dinner times.
I don't know how long you'll be there or where you're staying, but the only restaurant that I consider a "not to miss" restaurant is Mythos. It's a great place.
