Running for a cause

Assumng that I am able to keep running and actually make it to the half-marathon, I am considering running as a fundraiser. Not one of the organized ones, but as an individual. I have a friend who's grandson was recently born with a tragic, genetic skin disease and I'd like to raise funds for one of the research organizations associated with this little-known disease. I found a couple of websites that will let you make a personal fundraising page, but not sure how to promote it, other than just putting it out on my own facebook page. Has anyone ever done something like this and have any tips or suggestions? I guess I am wondering....do you just say "make a donation because I'm running" or make it a pledge-type thing per mile or based on time?

Up to you. I raised money for Parkinsons research when I ran the NYC Marathon, and I just told everyone I knew about it without trying to pressure anyone. It always feels good to do a good deed while running.
