I was just wondering.......Does Disney anyone belive that Disney would leak or let leak information on pending future projects to gauge reaction.

If a story leaks from a news source they usually have to have a credible source to, but if we hear it from a member without any other news story to validate it what should we belive, especially if it is several years away from happening/

You really can't answer that question. You'd have to ask all the employees that know about the project and see if they let it leak.

Based on what several CM's and ex CM's have posted, I would have to say no. Based on what they have seen and reported, there seems to be quite a bit of discipline involved if a CM violates any confidentiality clause.

Having said that, do I believe that Disney would release false leaks? Yes. Do I have proof? No.

Every company does that. The company I used to work for would send rumors to various computer gossip sites (like The Register) when they wanted to foil a competitor's plans but couldn't officially announce the project yet. Just part of the game. :D

Disney make a press release in the form of a leak - this way Disney controls the amount of information being released (Disney also know that the details are 100% correct), it gives Disney free publicity, creates interest in the Disney Company / Parks and also, with all the added interest, the share prices increase.
I think its been done before :hammer:

Other....Does it really matter. Rumors will get started no matter what. You just gotta try and weed the truth from the fiction.

If you want to guage reaction to a possible controversial change what better method than letting a few ungarded rumours out to do the work for you. Politicians have been doing it for years.

I think they leak it too. When my mom's company (Westlaw) merged with Thompson, they sent faxes to all the offices with "announcements" of what's going to happen...one of them was that Bill Gates was going to fly over their office in a helicopter with a banner on the end saying what's actually going to happen.

I would say no, but it is possible. I think they can get a pretty good idea of what people will think with relatively simple surveys, market research and common sense. I think by the time rumors of attractions come out, they are typically well into the planning stages.

I have had some experience recently working behind the scenes with a motorcycle manufacturer. They are very tight lipped about designs, and they have enough common sense to predict how a model will be received by the general public without unveiling it. As the project progresses, more and more people get involved, and information starts to leak out.

Based on the particular project I was working on, I would say that about 25% of what I saw on the internet was close to fact and roughly 75% was completely wrong. It's fun when someone predicts something less interesting than the actual product, but it's a bit distressing to see people predict things that are grander than reality and you tend to worry that people will be disappointed when they see the real thing.

If it was possible, I think Disney Management would like to keep everything completely unknown until the moment of unveiling.
