Rude people on scooters?

Just back from WDW. Didn't expect quite so many unhappy / rude people in such a happy place. I got ran into from behind 3 times by scooters (one time hurt pretty good and brought blood) and never once heard an "oh excuse me" or "I'm sorry". I guess people can get upset I don't walk as fast as some but I have a bad knee (retired me from the ARMY). I couldn't believe the people in scooters who would be in a mob of people (say just after rope drop) and would start beeping to try to get ahead to get that fastpass.

I may be in a scooter by our next trip...... but that will not give me the excuse to be rude to others.

Also, anyone else notice the people in scooters who get brought to the front of a ride line and then get out and practically run from that point on?

I guess this could be a touchy subject (political correctness and all), but really just wondering if others experienced this.

It is a touchy subject.

To toss it out there, not everyone riding scooters at WDW use them on a regular basis, or if they do, use the same device at the parks. So they may not be familiar with the size of the device and as such may not realize that they bumped you.
However, if they are aware of the size of the scooter, or did realize it an didn't apologize thats just not nice.

You should read one of my posts about things I'd like to forget...this is my run-in with a scooter lady:

"When we made our first trip in 2008 (I'm 25 now, was 22 then...so sad that the first trip was so late in life, I digress) I was walking down Main Street in MK and this lady was driving her motorized wheelchair/cart thing and talking on her phone. Needless to say she wasn't paying attention and ran right into me. The edge of her chair/cart thing sliced the back of my leg right above the Achilles Tendon and it started to gush, I also fell forward onto my bad knee and knocked it out (it dislocates frequently due to a bone issue) so I spent the rest of the day on crutches with a bandaged leg."

"It was an amazing trip, except for the scar I still have from that lady who, never apologized even when the CM and my dad were giving her dirty looks."

I think the scooters should only be allowed to people who have common sense and are polite enough to at least say "excuse me".

Bumped into one thing, actual injury quite another. Medical assistance should have been demanded from Disney, Security should have been called (this also would have resulted in a Disney Offical showing up. Insurance information etc should have been required from the other person. Not Disney's fault but gushing blood should have been handled much differently.

Hahahaha. That is priceless!

My 2 cents...

I usually got frustrated with those in the scooters renting them at the resort. Then the driver for the bus would ask them to pull onto the lift and park the scooter in the correct spot on the bus. Some of these people obviously never have used a scooter in their lives as they had NO clue on how to drive them. Took for ever for them to get them on the bus and they were always moved to the front of the line no matter when they go there. I honestly think scooter rentals should happen at the park not the resort.

Again just my Opinion.

I agree. It is my one of my biggest pet peeves that these scooters are always first on the next available bus! And then they take forever to 'drive' them on and 'to push the thorn deeper' they get off the scooter and 'walk' to a seat on the bus! Disney should have a scooter/wheelchair only bus! ha

The solution is actually mini buses for those in scooters/wheelchairs and their parties. Does it cost Disney more? Yes, but its more convenient for every guest, whether they are in the wheelchair party or not. I can imagine a lot of those in those parties and in those wheelchairs don't appreciate the dirty looks etc that they get due to the 'bad seeds' that abuse the system.

Oh, I can assure you that the 3 persons who bumped into me knew it:lookaroun:lookaroun:lookaroun. The lady who brought blood actually had the audacity to:shrug:.

I feel for people who require scooters (probably headed that way myself). I don't feel for people who think they are the only ones who matter.

I agree with the mini buses or shuttles. Maybe they can drive themselves to the parks with their motorized units?

I do feel for the ones who truly need them but I feel safe to say many rent them for the perks of the bus system, front of ride line, etc. These people are lazy or overweight/disabled by choice - ie, eat too many turkeys legs, dole whips, etc. Those are the ones that anger me.

Maybe I should conceit defeat and just rent one myself? ha

I HATE the fact that there is a large line of people waiting to get on a bus and a scooter rolls up with the other 20 members of their family and they all get right on.

I have no problem waiting for the driver to assist the individual with the scooter or wheelchair, and I'm not going to get into the rudeness or the validity of the chair, but why can't they get into the line and wait for their turn like everyone else? The chains and/or rails are PLENTY wide enough to push/ride a chair through and get IN QUEUE. Line up with everyone else, when it's your turn you will be assited.

In WDW - there are rude people.

Rude people on scooters, in wheelchairs, on foot, in strollers, pushing strollers, on benches, on rides, on the bus, in the lines, at restaurants, in the bathroom, at the resorts, CMs, guests, everyone. Disney can't do anything about it because they can't ban obnoxious.

Not all people are rude - but rude people come in all shapes, sizes, colors, mobilities.

It's a shame that so many people are rude/unhappy in the most magical place on Earth. How people can stand to be unhappy on a very expensive vacation is beyond me. Rude people are all over Disney - try not to let it affect you. You're in Disney World! Be happy you're there...many others are sitting at home wishing they were.

Well, I use a scooter and I agree that those who rent them should get some training. They don't have brakes and depending on the speed setting that will change stopping distance. Now, rudness is not limited to those who need a scooter. I actually had a lady pushing her child in a stroller run into me while I was stopped. She yelled at me for being in her way. On our last trip I had a lady cuss at me because I was in her way as she was running in the handicapped line at 'soarin. Apparently, the OP wasn't talking about me running to the ride after getting off my scooter. I can barely walk let alone run. I've had a hip replacement, both knees operated on, I have 5 stents in my heart and I've had two cancer surgeries in the last two years. I'm sorry some people, both those who use scooters and those who don't, can be rude but that is not me. I will continue to enjoy Disney with a scooter and if my presence disturbs you tough I would be happy to trade places with you! :fork:

Bingo, we have a winner; my sentiments exactly.

I think Disney should build replicas of each park on the rest of the available land. These parks will be designated "scooter parks" complete with yellow dotted lines, and traffic lights. This will greatly enhance the Disney experience for both scooter users and non scooter users, while also creating a safer place for us Disney lovers to visit.

I actually found people in line for rides to be the rudest..... but that is another forum. I feal Disney does add to that when they come in and tell everyone to cram in, move as far toward the door as possible (mind you we were there the end of Sept and never saw a completely full theater).

Thankfully I never let anyone ruin more than a couple minutes of my time (going to first aid for bandage) and was able to regroup to my magical happy place.

The busses letting on persons on scooters first didn't really bother us because we never really had to wait long. I could see where this would bother others though if they had to wait for the next bus when they had gotten to the busstop before the person on the scooter.

Here's the thing...

If you see someone on a scooter you need to remember that you do not know them. What I mean is, you really have no idea if they need it or not so why make the assumption that they don't? Just assume that everyone that has one needs it unless it is obvious that they don't. If a person bumps into you and doesn't say sorry then just chalk it up to zero manners. You are in the most heavily trafficked parks in the world so don't expect to not get hit or bumped into by someone. I know that these things can be hard to drive but a lot of the people driving them may not drive one normally. I had a surgery a few years back and it prevented me from walking very far for very long until I healed so I got an ECV at places like Walmart and Target. They are hard to drive sometimes. Granted, I did not run into people but I was also not at a park that is packed full of people. Honestly, how many people have been ran into by these things when it was virtually empty on the walkways? None. And if you have then maybe you walked right out in front of the driver. They don't stop on a dime ya know. And on the other side of the coin here, the drivers could take it a little easier and realize that they are in a crowd of people and to not drive like they are attempting to win a contest. And yes, I have seen my fair share of stupid teens sharing the ECVs. Just tell a CM and they ought to put a stop to it.

Point is, everyone should try to be a little more tolerant of each other. We don't know one another so we really don't know why the ECV is being used or why the person did not say they were sorry for hitting you.

No thanks on the trade.

If you read my post you will know I have no problems with people on scooters so why try to take it there.

I have a problem with people in scooters running into me and then not having the courtacy to appologize. MY experience and wanted to know if others experienced the same thing. Don't know how many people I appologized to for bumping them (by close quarters or just knee giving out a couple times - by the way if Rob from Maine is reading this thanks for catching me).

I have to agree - that my family's biggest complaint last year. We would be waiting at the bus stops in the morning for 20+ min (sometimes waiting for the 2nd bus because the 1st had already filled) and someone would pull up as the bus approached and still be put on 1st. And while we did get used to it, I was very surprised that never once did the scooter operator or their family ever say "we'll wait ALL these people were ahead of us."
