RSR FP Distribution Location

I just read that the FP distribution location is not near the actual Radiator Springs Racers attraction. Is that true? If I want to run straight to get a FP for it at park opening, where should I go?

Head straight through Carthay Circle if entering the park from the main entrance.
The FP distribution will be on the left-hand side as you approach "It's Tough to be a Bug".
There will likely be a line formed already (depending on Magical Morning or not) and possibly ropes to identify the queue.

It's a major, giant production with lots of signs and its own crew of CM's directing traffic. They even staff a CM at each Fastpass machine to speed the process and help you with your tickets. Everyone in your party must be scanned into the park to get a Fastpass and you must be there at park opening and get in the fast moving line.

It's a huge deal, and you really can't miss where to be once you enter the park first thing in the morning.

you and everyone else!!
When we went October 2012 it was queuing all the way back to way past Carthay, to the place were the animation drawing classes are (sorry can't remember name off the top of my head) was mental!
We used to go straight there, get in the queue while my wife went off to buy breakfast from starbucks for us :) They used to (don't know if they still do, guess its probably calmed down) run out by about 9am lol.

as i say mental - BUT, brilliant ride, so definitely worth it!!

Is there any decent strategy for riding it twice in one day? Or is walking quickly towards the queue on a magic morning rope drop and riding first thing and once the most reasonable option?

two words: Single Rider. It is usually a third of the waiting time of the regular line. 90 minute standby equals about a 30 minutes single rider.

Magic Morning's are pretty dead so if you have it, take advantage and ride multiple times, then when the the park opens to regular guests go visit other attractions while everyone else runs to RSR. The thing about MM is there are only 3 Disney hotels so not many people get MM like at WDW. While certain buying multi-day tickets get you a Magic Morning as well, a high percentage of the people that visit DLR are AP's and they don't get MM, unless they have some special thing going on.

And the AP's don't show up until late morning/early afternoon on weekends, or early evening on weeknights. The rest of the maddening crowd in the morning after Magic Morning is the 20,000 other non-Disney hotel rooms within a mile of Disneyland in the Anaheim Resort District. Plus a healthy chunk of day-trippers driving in first thing in the morning from beyond Anaheim and parking in the 22,000+ parking spaces that Disneyland has.

3,000 Disney Hotel Rooms
20,000 Non-Disney Hotel Rooms
3,500 Non-Disney Hotel Rooms Under Construction in 2014

You can thank the success of Cars Land for the few thousand extra non-Disney hotel rooms now under construction in Anaheim.

AP's are a factor at Disneyland, but not anything to deal with first thing in the morning. You are battling 25 Million other people who visit Disneyland/DCA each year to get a Fastpass for Radiator Springs Racers, but the AP contingent doesn't show up until much later in the day if they aren't blocked out that day.

when we in Oct 2012, we got magic hours, queued to get in park, then queued to get in cars land, then they finally let us through, got there - ride broke down, we queued then for 2 hours and they finally said - sorry ride is broken for maybe 2 more hours you can all leave if you want ... so we left, of course missing any chance of a fast pass. Next day, got in (normal hours) queued for a fast pass (big queue!!), got our fast pass, went and queued for maybe 30mins to get on ride - RIDE BROKEN DOWN !!!!

So the next day we went to guest relations and told them how much time we had wasted and how disappointed we were - so they issued us there and then 4 (i think 4, might have been 5, cant remember now for sure) fast passes for the rides of our choice, but they told us sorry we cant give you RSR cos its brand new, so we kicked off again and said well that's pretty poor considering that's the ride we waited for and thats the one we want to ride - so they gave in and gave us 1 each for RSR :) luckily we had just queued for FP for it on our own tickets, so we got to nail it twice in 1 day on FP.

We won't have access to MM. How early should I get to the Park entrance to be ready to make a dash for the RSR FP machines?

We recently returned from our Disneyland trip (Jan. 27-30) and we did Single Rider multiple times during our visit. No problems. short wait. 20-25 minutes at most.
