Has anyone ever eaten anything other than fish and chips at the Rose & Crown? I was just wondering cause we are planning on eating lunch there and I was curious if the food was good. Haven't experimented much with English fare.:)

We have had almost every appertizer, plus about 5 of the different entrees on the lunch menu. I love the Mushroom Ragouryand Lamb Barley Soup. Also the Bangers and Mash and Cottage Pie are good.

We like to experiment. You can always get the fish and chips at the outside stand....same thing!

Also, the Sticky Toffee Pudding is wonderful!

YES! And to be honest with you, the fish and chips is the LAST thing on the menu I'd order next time I go. :lookaroun as K&K said, bangers and mash are really awesome, and the leek and potato soup, OMG :dazzle: SO GOOD. Also the Guinness stew is great!

And sticky toffee pudding is my favorite!! :sohappy: :slurp:

Been there...didn't really like the food. But then again we were sitting outside...it was cold and raining...so maybe that contributed to my mood that night.

We've had the Cottage Pie there. Friend of ours made it for us back home. Being Asian, I had never heard of it, but it tasted awesome. My friend told me the recipe came from the Cooking With Mickey cookbook and that it was on the menu of Rose & Crown.

The next time we were at EPCOT, I went to try it there. I believe it's no longer offered there as a standalone item, but rather part of a "pie" sampler.

I want to try bangers and mash there, on my next trip.

I am not sure if its the same thing as cottage pie, but I had Sheaperds Pie when there on our Honeymoone in Nov 2002. It was awesome....

If memory serves me right, Shepherd's Pie is made with lamb while Cottage Pie is made with beef. They're very similar in prep, ground meat on the bottom topped with veggies and mashed potatoes and baked.

Your memory serves you well, you are indeed correct. :D Actual recipes for each can vary, but the essential base that differentiates between the two is sheep in a Shepard's pie, cow in a cottage pie.

Fish and chips is a must-have!

DH and I ALWAYS go to Rose and Crown at Epcot for lunch -- and we always get the fish and chips. Absolutely the best! The portion is HUGE and we enjoy every morsel. I am not a fish eater - and I love it. The fish meat/flesh is firm and fresh and tasty, the breading/coating is crisp and not overly oily, and it hits the spot. Plus we are not hungry again until late, around 8 or 9 p.m.!

Now, I have always been curious and look at the plates being carried out to other tables and all the food looks great. But I say, if it's not broke, don't fix it -- and we stay with our first choice.

The sparkling water from Wales (in cobalt-blue bottles) are refreshing, too. :sohappy:

I am an angliophile and have visited Great Britain several times. I've had fresh fish and chips in Penzance, on the coast, and The Rose and Crown fish and chips rivals Penzance, any day!

Definately get the Bangers and Mash but if you don't like cabbage ask for it without the bubble and squeak! My dad had the pie smapler and he thought that was very good. Also my sis had the drink the Welsh Dragon and she loved it! I had the yard of Bass.... yummy!

I have eaten at Rose & Crown for dinner and thought it was okay. There wasn't enough on the menu for me to select from because most of the stuff I didn't like. I can say that the salmon was good.

OK, I've lived in the UK all my life - what on earth is a Welsh Dragon?

one of the best things i love to do in there is to go sit with my family outside (if it's one of those beautiful gorgieous days out) and have a nice cold coke and a basket of cheesey fries, they are delicious!!

The cottage pie is available as a stand alone item at both lunch & dinner. I concur highly on the wonderful recommendations! I've prepared it at home too from the online recipe at allearsnet.

I'd also put in a recommendation for the chicken pastry. If you like chicken pot pie, you'll love this! Also, as mentioned, the creamy leek & potato soup is amazing.

And don't miss the Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert. Yum! :slurp: Here are some pictures. I can't wait to go back now.

The last 2 times I have eaten there, I ordered the Pie Sampler (3 dishes - I believe they were called bangers and mash, cottage pie and shepherds pie) and have enjoyed it both times.

We go every trip. We eat outside usually. Very good food (and drink). Nice place to relax.

Last time though there were some brave seagulls that would jump up on tables when people would leave. Really don't like that part, but anywhere at WDW that you eat outside is like that. At least when we go in the Winter.

We are going next week, are the birds as bad in the Summer?
