Rooms with Bunk Beds and Trundles....

So we are in the planning process for our next trip. Our DS is 12 and is our only child. I was thinking it would be nice to see about letting him bring a friend on our next trip so he could hang out with somebody other than his parents. Being both boys are/will be 12/13 I'm guessing they would prefer not to sleep together. In looking at rooms it just seems like bunk bed rooms are few and far between. I know there are a couple of BB rooms at the WL but they run an extra $130/night over a double queen room. In addition to that POR and CB have trundle rooms but we have no idea how big the bed is to know if the boys will be able to sleep comfortably. The other option is a family suite at AoA. It just seems like with all of the families that come do WDW they would have more options for parents bringing their kids.

Taking everything into account I'm thinking the POR will be our best option but I didn't know if there was something we overlooked? Or if others can give input on the trundle beds and if they will work for kids about 54" tall?

The Murphy beds at PORS should be fine for a person that height. The dimensions for it are roughly 63"X30".

Caribbean Beach also has the Murphy beds.

AKL also has bunk beds, but the price is similar to WL.

We use the BB rooms at the WL all the time with two older daughters, and they're fine but given the room size it makes things seem a little more crowded. The trundle beds are about a similar size to the fold out beds on cruise ships, and those are fine for teenage daughters so they should be ok for a 12 year old.

That's a good point. There's a bunk bed in the WL Cabins but there's also a queen bed inside the room, so it might be uncomfortable for you all to sleep in the same room. AoA family suite may work, since there's both a sofa bed and a pull-down murphy bed.

BTW, I'm not sure how set you are on staying on property, but I stayed at Bonnett Creek to go to Sea World a couple years ago and they have some very nice, spacious rooms with a bunk bed. The bunk beds are segregated from the main bed so it's not as uncomfortable as the cabin set up. It is a beautiful resort and the room was very inexpensive (under $200/night). I know a couple other families that have stayed there and have raved about it. It is right next to Pop Century.

We always stay on property. Just something about being in the Disney bubble.

Your choices really aren't that limited. As PPs have noted, you could choose from WL, AKL, POR, CBR, Ft W cabins, AoA family suites, or ASMu family suites ( I don't think that one has been mentioned yet.

If you pick CBR, make sure to request a room with a Murphy bed. I don't think every room has one. If you pick POR, remember that Murphy beds are only located in the Alligator Bayou section of the resort. You can request one, but preference is given to families of 5. You can guarantee a Murphy bed by booking a preferred room, since all of those are in AB.

In pricing out options, make sure to include two connecting rooms at a Value resort. About the same space as a family suite, but typically priced less and you get four real beds rather than one real bed and a bunch of Murphy/sofa beds.

Thank you for the info on the AB being a preferred room. The last couple of stays we have done preferred rooms as my DH hates a long walk at 12-1 am. We find the extra couple of dollars well worth it.
I'm not sure I knew about the Family Suites at ASM. I will have to look into that as well.

The cabins at FW have bunk beds and a queen bed in the bedroom, and then there is a pull out sofa (that I find very comfortable) in the living room. If it works for your budget it's a great resort. Having a full cabin gives everyone breathing room.

I'm 5 foot 8 1/2 inches tall and 140 pounds. I spent two nights on the trundle bed at riverside. I had my adult son, adult daughter and her husband with me so I could either sleep with my son who is over 6 foot tall and a bed hog or do the trundle. They'd surprised me with a weekend for flower and garden and concert tickets for my birthday in March 2 years ago so we all crashed in one room. I could lay out flat and fit but with a pillow you know how you sleep at the bottom part of the pillow the bed then felt short for that amount of space so maybe a few inches but I did fine just dropped the pillow off once or twice when rolling over. So depending on how tall or heavy the boys are they may fit just fine. Have you priced a family suite at the allstars (I think it's movies that has them) or AoA compared to a deluxe resort with bunk beds. If you're unsure about the bunk beds (cost aside) I've slept on those too lol. My two sisters and I took our step mom during food and wine last year and we had a bunk bed room at AKL. My step mom and her daughter slept in the queen bed and my sister and I took the bunk beds and were fine there too lol. They were no different than any regular twin bed.

My daughter is probably 5'8" maybe a bit more and she slept our entire stay on the murphy bed at CBR. She thought it was fine comfort wise.
