Room Service?

I've never had room service at WDW. I guess I've always just thought it was cheaper and faster to go get the food myself or pack the food I wanted so I would just have it in the room. Have you ever had room service at WDW? What were your reasons for ordering it to your room instead of just going and getting it at a QS? Was the food good? Would you do it again? Also, it is part of the dining plan?

I ordered room service once at the Wilderness Lodge. My friend and I had been in the parks all day and I wasn't feeling well. We decided not to leave the room for the evening and figured it would just be easier to order room service! It was delicious (some kind of pasta, don't remember) You can use the dining plan, but it uses 2 credits instead of 1. I would do it again if I wasn't feeling well IF my husband wasn't with me. As long as he's with me I can send him to get food. :P

My family and I have used room service on several occasions, and here was our most recent experiences:

April 28th @ BC:
It was check out day and we wanted a hardy breakfast. We opted for a meal that fed 4 adults: scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, Mickey waffles, a big bowl of fruit, water, OJ, and coffee. I called the night before (8 pm); the CM taking the order asked, "tea or coffee, and for how many?". Next, she asked me a preferred delivery time...I said 8 am, to which she replied, "We delivery in blocks of time; would you prefer 7:30-8 am or 8-8:30 am?".
That morning came and we got a call from a CM stating that the kitchen was backed up and it would closer to 8:30 am. 8:30 came and went, and right as I was about to call down to find out how much longer, the phone rang: our food and server would be up in 15 min.. Our server, a talkative, super friendly Englishman, apologized profusely for the delay. He was very professional, set up the food, and showed us everything he brought in. Breakfast was good, but too much food for us.

June 7th @ BWV:
I hadn't been feeling well and decided to order in dinner for our family. I called at 5:30 pm and ordered a burger, turkey BLT, and 2 kid's grilled cheeses. The CM told me it would only be 30 min., but only 20 min. passed and there was a knock at that door. CM came in, set up the food, showed me what was delivered and left with a nice tip, even with the automatic 18% gratuity tacked onto the bill.

June 9th @ same place:
We were going to have our pictures taken at 9 am at EP, so I wanted my family to have a good breakfast. I called at 11 pm the night before, and placed an order similar to the one we had at BC. This time, I picked a 7-7:30 am block. The CM asked me if I wanted the server to call before delivery, to which I said, "sure.". Food was delivered by 7:30 am, and the server once again set everything up and showed us what had been delivered.

All in all, room service is nice, convenient, and expensive (double tipping adds up). You can place an order up until 12 am and as early as 6 am. If you want your food close to your desired time, pick the earlier time block. If on the DDP, 2 TS points per meal are taken, as someone has already stated. Room service really makes you feel like you're on vacation!

I have ordered breakfast room service a few times which is okay but I would rather eat in the restaurant. We ordered the pizza from room service once at Wilderness Lodge and it was horrible an inch of cheese over tomato catsup.

We have ordered dinner from room service a couple of times and it is such a wonderful indulgence.
It is so nice to eat in the comfort of your room. We enjoyed a delicious meal and we didn't have to be somewhere at a specific time for a dining reservation.

We have done room service for breakfast, lunch and dinner over the years and never had a bad experience. LOVE the mornings on the balcony at the Poly, with a wonderful plate of food :) For our breakfasts, it was for no other reason than do a big breakfast in our jammies then nibble our way thru WS during Food and Wine. A couple of times for lunch and dinner, it was usually due to downpours/thunderstorms. A nice, relaxing night, then up early, rested and happy :)

Not room service, but on a previous trip we ordered delivery pizza and wings. Expensive but yummy. I have heard WDW has been cracking down on delivery.

Oooh! That sounds nice! My mom and I will be staying at AKL in a savannah view room (hopefully) because she's never been and she loooooves animals! This sounds like a perfect way to start a day!

We have had early breakfast delivered to the room and pizza a few times at the Polynesian. We had an early flight and figured we could eat while getting ready kind of leisurely. The pizza was pretty good-they are very large pizzas-this was on a night when we turned in rather early on our last night and it was a lazy day so to speak, plus my DM was not feeling well. It is nice service-they set everything up for you and much more quiet than hitting Captain Cooks.

We had a huge lunch at the 50's PT and I was so bogged down with food that after we hopped over to MK I basically skipped dinner...

around 1AM I was hungry, called up the Yacht Club room service and ordered up a chicken sangy (with lettuce, tomato, and a nice mayo) homemade potato chips, potato salad, a pickle, and a can of diet coke for 28 bucks!

It was pretty damn good.

I'm on vacation!

Yeah, I was trying to get a feel for if this is something I should be doing like once a trip as a surprise or if there was something about it that added to the experience. It sounds like it can be really fun to come back from the parks, relax, order some dinner and just sit on the balcony.
