"Rockford" learns the 'Rules'

Don't know if any of you have heard yet, but James Garner, best known for "Maverick" and "The Rockford Files," will be joining the cast of '8 Simple Rules...,' for four episodes, as Katey Sagal's father. Here are two articles on the subject:

Me too. He's excellent in anything he does. Especially Space Cowboys, Maverick and the Maverick TV series.

But I still think the new 8 Simple Rules will fail. John Ritter made that show; he was the one that made it worth watching; and now he's gone. It's clear that ABC wanted a heavyweight; a ratings grabber (________ Van was also in talks to play the role); and James Garner is just that. But, a John Ritter type show without John Ritter ... I just hope that 8 Simple Rules doesn't end up like the final -- and dreadful -- season of Spin City.
