Just saw the video of 'Welcome to Our World' that @wdwmagic linked to on twitter. It's a really spectacular show and the largest that WDW has ever put on. If you haven't seen it, you should...

Anyway, my question: Is the show totally created by Disney? Is the 'Welcome to our World' song and intro owned by Disney? I'm wondering if perhaps we'll see something similar to this opening in Rivers of Light... It would go together pretty well!

Rivers won't have pyro though.

The song is by Lebo M, who worked on the music for the Lion King. I believe all the true African music in the film is his. He also worked on an album called Rythm of the Pridelands that featured music inspired by and at times cut from the film. Most of the music on the album was reworked into the music for the Broadway show. This particular song wasn't for the album, but a short version is used in FotLK as an introduction to the four singers.

Oooh. All the more reason to think it might pop up in ROL...

Wow! Thanks for sharing that! I hadn't seen that all the way through before. We were actually at Magic Kingdom that night and didn't know about the show until we saw the end of it as we were walking to the monorail. We were really bummed that we didn't get to watch the whole show!

As someone who has worked at DAK and heard people talk about ROL and how it came about, I know for a fact that if there are are pyrotechnics, there will likely only be sparklers like the very beginning of the video. ROL isn't something that was just thrown around and developed arbitrarily--it took WDI years to come up with something that could be large enough to be a nighttime show and quiet enough that it wouldn't disturb the animals.

Do you know all of those PSAs that were going around on social media for Fourth of July? The ones about pets thinking that the Fourth is the end of the world? Well, that is exactly how Disney feels the animals would react to a firework show and is precisely why DAK has gone without. Even though there is a chance that something like the flares could be launched, I honestly doubt that they would risk upsetting the animals.

Thanks! I was wondering where I had heard that from.
