Here's a random question for anybody who has the answer;)

What ever became of River Country? I was telling my husband about it the other day and when he asked me what it was now, I had no response.

So, I thought I'd come to the authorities on everything disney:D

It closed in 2001 and at this point looks to be a permanent closure. Several reasons are speculate for the closure. One of them is that bacteria in Bay Lake contaminated River Country's water.

I knew that it was closed, and had figured that it would probably be permanent, seeing how it is never mentioned anywhere in the Disney planning stuff anymore. I just didn't know if it ever became anything else (like a parking lot:cry:)

It was the first waterpark I ever went to, and remember thinking it was so cool as a kid.

Interesting Pics!

Looks out of shape. Some good land for them to level and start another water park if they wanted to. It seems strange that they let it sit there for so long and not just tear it down..........

The Main Building complex is still in use, the Restrooms around Pop's Place are used from Mickey's Backyard BBQ, the kitchen is also used for the BBQ. I also noticed Cast Members from the Fort Wilderness area using the breakroom.

Pumbas Nakasak

Heading for the great escape.
I did a lake cruise a few weeks ago and the guy driving the boat, took us over toward it. It loooks as if reeds etc are growing in the water, and even from that distance the water looked disgusting. He repeated the normal rumours you hear on here about themed pool for the camp ground/lodge, but admitted that there is several stories circulating those who work there but the gut feeling is it will be left to rot.

Sad really.

When I was at WDW in August we took a fireworks cruise and were told by our driver that they closed River Country because of the lack of attendance. Is it true, is it a rumor, who knows.

There is a website out there somewhere with pictures inside of RC. I wish I saved it. It's basically just full of weeds and thats it.
