It would be a shame to see it premenately closed, after all it is the world's first water park, and I've never gotten the chance to go there :(

It's been closed for a couple of years now. I think they are closing it as a water park, but I have heard rumors of them perhaps making it a pool area for Fort Wilderness. I never liked River Country...but I think it is rustic enough to be a fine addition to FW.

Yea, current plans say it will become the Ft. Wilderness pool and such. They get a nice pool! LOL:lol:

Wow, once that opens I think I'll be staying at Ft. Wilderness alot :D

When is it set to open? Are they currently refurbishing it? (I'd assume they would while it's closed)

No. It's currently closed. No work is being done on the site. It's just sitting there... decaying. :p

a well designed and engineered davey crockett fort would be a good additon to it with like a festive bbq area and a story teller like they have in the grand califorinan at dl

I took a watermouse up to River Country, too, but was told by the "Mickey Coast Guard" that I was too close to land and needed to get further away. Yes, it's still sitting there decaying. I was only there once. :(

But, I took a watermouse up to what was once "Discovery Island" and well, ummm, nothing is happening there, either.

I heard/read somewhere that the mountain that was built for the tube slides is structurally unsound. Forget where i saw that though.

With only a little imagination, it would be pretty easy, and interesting, to turn River Country into a Pirate themed water park, ala Curse of the Black Pearl. I can see Johnny Depp swinging from yardarms now.

Nothing is official yet, but I would probably say that it will be cut down a lot and made in to a FT. Wilderness pool area. The campground really needs it and I think Disney will just spring for the idea. But it will be nothing like it was when it was a water park.

I use to go the River Country every year when I was a kid. I personally loved it. But I did grow up on a lake so that did not bother me.

I have been to Blizzard Beach and do not like it as much as I did like River Country. Though Blizzard Beach was not around when I was a child so I can't say if I would have liked it more back then.

As long as they do something with it, I think it is ok. As mentioned Treasure Island/Discovery Island just sits now. Also they say there is an old railway at Fort Wilderness that is overgrown. Though I did read that they might bring it back.

I just hate seeing something that was once loved sit and rot.
