Disney officially announced this week that River Country will never reopen. This announcement comes as a surprise for most because it has been over 3 years since River Country admited its final guests.

Yea, this is sort of weird. I guess they were waiting to see how much they brought in a year for private events, meetings, etc. I guess it didnt work out. I guess we can only hope that Disney will use this space for another something that we as guests will enjoy. I sure do hope so. My guess is that with some major renovationg it would be a park, but I am almost positive that unless a major water treatment of some kind is made, that River Country will not have a future of a water park. (Plenty of other reasons, try the search feature, it comes in handy :) )

I loved going there when I was little, so relaxing and joyable...Blizzard Beach and TL were always so loud. There goes another great Disney attraction, it will be missed.

Well at least they don't have to worry about the area any longer now they can liquidate it and forget about it. My question is, do they plan on building anything there? Would the opportunity of recycling the land for some other use help Disney make the decision to officially close the attraction?

I almost never had the opportunity to enjoy this park. About four years ago I stayed off property. My family and I tried to get into both TL and BB but both were not admitting off property guest, so we decided to go to RC. The park was not big on thrills but had that something special that just made you really fall in love with it. RC will be missed.

It makes me laugh how much I have read over the years on people being upset about River Country being closed.......the park was no longer of current "Disney Quality" and, although cool back in the day, was really no longer anything groundbreaking or breathtaking.

If the park was built today (with all of the same attractions), how would you feel about it?

I agree, River Country was something new and differnt when it came to water parks years ago, but today it seems antiquated. Don't get me wrong I liked going to RC, but its design, capacity, and competition did it in.

Im suprised that Disney Legal even let RC stay open as long as it did considering the bacteria issues with the lake.

Of course people are angry about it, River Country was the first Disney water park (& some people prefered it's more layback atmosphere to the later water parks).

I can't believe it's been closed for three years. I got to see it up close for the first time this weekend. I was staying in the Wilderness Lodge for the first time this weekend. I jogged through the nature trails to Fort Wilderness. You can still walk right up to what I guess was the main entrance. It really doesn't look like its been closed for that long. Sidewalks even looked swept. There were some large trees down (thank you hurricanes). A fence in the distance shielded the water features. Overall, it looked like it could open up in about a week.

You should see it from the water side. It is very gloomy. I'm truely surprised that the announcement was put off this long. They were well aware that they would never reopen RC years ago. The place is overgrown and has fallen into disrepair. I suppose that they just made the decision to tear the place down. I wish they would budget for something else but I guess that they can't have guests passing by on boats any longer viewing a skeleton of what used to be a Disney park.
Cheers to River Country, a fun park in it's day, may it rest in peace:wave:
