Rides for the BIG & TALL

Ok,

I'm 6'6" about 280lbs and I'm a fairly big guy. Not really fat, just tall, and well proportuned.
When will Disney start making the attraction vehicles just a tiny bit more roomy.??

Most things are ok for me, just some are alittle snug (ie: Space Mtn, R&RC, Test Track, I know there's others).

I was just curious if anyone else has this complaint or if you all get by ok.??

Also, I've had CM's tell me for the longest time that the front of the Ride Vehicles on Space Mtn are the more roomy, but on my last trip one told me the back ones are the more roomy. Needless to say, the back vehicle did have more room big time. It was alot easier for the legs.

I'm only 5'8", 158 lbs. and I can barely fit in the Space Mt. seats. I can't imagine how tight that is for you!

Space Mtn is definatly the worst for me. Next is Test Track (those darn seat belts :) ).
With R&RC, the over the shoulder restraint sits on me with an angle. That was scary the first time.
I'm just a big guy, like I said not obese or anything. I'm curious to see how I fit on Mission Spc, and some of the other newer thing since my last trip in 2002.

I Share the Same Feelings

I'm 6'2" and about 280lbs, built like an NFL linesman. I used to hate it on RnRRC where the shoulder harness would barely go down looking more like a face guard than a shoulder harness. Finally last year I complained but the next day my eyes were opened...

I rode BTMRR with my 35 lb 4 year old daughter (who only just barely makes the height restriction and seems to weigh almost nothing). After sitting down we pulled the lap bar down as tight as we could get it. I was snug, but the bar was nowhere near her. I made a comment to the cast member asking how this could be safe when she could get out so easily. Overhearing me she stood up and started to climb over the bar just to prove it! The train dispatched so I grabbed her, pulled her into the seat and held on to her so tightly she complained about it for days. The new side panels make me feel better, but now I ride alone and the girls ride with mom.

So although I agree, especially with more shoulder and leg room, I think I experienced why the rides are designed for the smaller people.

I'm 6'4 and just over 300 and had no problem with any of the rides on my last visit ("problem" being that I didn't fit)... That said I found it ironic that the rides that I wasn't 100% comfortable on were due to my heigh more so than my weight (My legs just barely fit in many of the rides already mentioned)... The Seatbelts on ToT make so much more sense... I had a little girl in my row before the belts and she got major air time :)

The safety systems are designed for the average guest. Some ride manufactuers have created certain seats for larger guests (B&M and their "big boy" seat) but overall, restraints really can't be made flexible enough to accomodate both huge and tiny people.

If you have read the news lately, Cedar Point has actually set-up size limits for the Millenium Force rc, as it has the same safety system as a ride in at SFNE that someone was killed on. It is called the "guests of exceptional size rule".

The rides are going to be designed to accomodate average sized guests for the most part... granted, the average is getting plumper and plumper. As a result, parks have every right and responsibility to deny over-weight riders the opportunity to ride (see the recent story about the man who was overweight who died on Six Flags New England's superman).

As for tall guest, I also have experienced the squeeze on space mountain. I don't know WHO fits in those seats!!!!

Beat me to the post! Oh well.

love the softened phrase 'guests of exceptional size'. Wouldn't that be normal weight individuals... since they are the exception these days?

I am only 5'10''ish and I have a hard time in the front seat (in all seats, but the front esp) A few weeks ago, the party in front of me had a person with a leg disability with them (he did not have good control over his legs, and could not bend them well) and the CMs tried to load them in the front seat....figured out it just was not going to happen, and finally put him in the back seat.

i too am 5'10" and found Space Mtn. a tight fit, leg room wise as well as RnRC which surprised me. i thought i would of had a little bit more room to extend my knee from a 90 degree angle. but i think that depended on the fact i was in the second to last car in the train, same thing on Big Thunder...actually had the lap belt resting across my thighs!, it hurt going over those hills towards the end of the ride.

I'm 5'7" and I've never had any problems that I can really remember.

My ex, however, was 6'10" and was always running into problems getting into and being even somewhat comfy in alot of ride vehicles. This was at both Disney and other places.

The new rule on the Superman at Six Flags New England is that no woman over 6 feet and no man over 6'4 can ride it. They also added shin bars, a seat belt underneath the t-bar restraint, and a seat belt that goes across the side of the car to hold you in. This second seatbelt is not adjustable. If you can't lock it in place, you can't ride.

As for WDW rides, I have a 6'4 dad and a 6'6 brother who ride all the rides in WDW (with me squished in the middle!). They're a little slow getting in and out of Space Mountain and usually get some bruised knees but they can ride every ride. And I get great air time on the rides with lap bars! ToT used to be fabulous!!

Thought I'd add my 2 cents!

I'm 6'5" and about 280 lbs with long legs and a very broad chest. We've been to WDW six times in the past two years and I can report only a couple of issues. I agree that the back seat is by far the best on SM.....another issue is feeling like the top of your head is going to get taken off when you zoom through parts of the ride! It actually tickels my bald spot!

On both RNRC and TT I definitely ask for the front seat as there is more leg room. Never really had an issue with the restraint at RNRC except when I locked it down too far....wow that was uncomfortable since you cannot move at our size once it's locked into place. On TT I've found it easier to buckle up in the front and there is considerably more leg room than crushing your knees in the back.

M:S is great and I have zero problem fitting in. When the console rotates after the doors are closed I still have sufficient leg room and don't feel squashed at all. The overhead harness is more comfortable than the one at RNRC, but the ride is obviously a lot different.

Star Tours is a bit snug when fastening the old lap belt though!!!!

I don't "drop" well so TOT is out of the question....been there, done that, no need to do it again.....even before the lap belts!

Right! I'm 6'2" too and I like the old trains much better. Who remembers those? They were like the log flume boats and were very comfortable. My parents and I got into one of those years ago. Actually...we tricked my mother onto the ride and she screamed so loud, I thought she was going to crack the roof!

I do feel that when I ask for a back seat on Space Mtn or a front seat on Test Trk, sometimes the Cast Mem's look at me like I'm in idiot. Almost like they didn't hear me or acknowledge they heard me.
Maybe it's just me.???
I can see if I was like under 6' and It didn't seem like I needed these seats, but like previously mentioned, I am 6'6" approx 280lbs. I sometimes feel that Cast Mem's should automatically know to an extent and maybe tell me:
"Sir, I'm gonna go ahead and set you up in a more spacey seat, so please hold just a moment" or something like that.
I dont know.....just speakinh my mind.
 :)

Nice to know that the back seats of Space Mountain are roomier. I'm 5'11' and got put in the front on our last trip. Getting in and out was hard enough, but that day I happened to be wearing a short sundress because it was really hot. Getting in and out was bad enough, but trying to discreetly do it in a dress ...bad idea. Never again!
