riderswap question

My wife and I are going down to WDW in September with her sister our six month old baby. We were talking today about the rider swap and was wondering how it worked. Say I waited with our daughter while my wife and sister-in-law rode Splash Mountain. When they got off the ride could my wife and I then ride? Or would I have to ride by myself since she technically already got her turn?

I have been trying to find some info on Disney's site but their writeup of the process is very brief.

From what I have read around the forums, I think that you could possibly take 2 people to ride with you.

Correct, a rider switch pass is good for up to three people.

My husband and I have a 13 year old and 2 little ones. We do the rider swap all the time. Our 13 year old rides with me while my Hubby stays with our younger children in the stroller. Then we get off and my daughter rides again with my hubby. So there is someone that gets to go twice and you will never have to ride alone.
