it depends on the attraction/popularity/cast member. While most times they will not check to see if there is a fast pass for the rider who will stay back and use the rider swap...there are times that they might. Last year the Flight of Passage ride was under super security and they did check to make sure everyone had a fast pass before they gave us a rider swap. That was the only time that had ever happened. We always have them booked anyways. That cast member at the entrance of FOP was pretty hard core. She was also very rude. So rude, in fact, that we complained to guest services.

Thank you. If you don’t have a FP for an attraction i.e. Barnstormer, or any ride ...Does the second rider get in the standby line as well?
So if 2 riders in a family of 4 are doing the attraction first, they all wait in standby, get the pass, and then second adult and child wait in the standby line again?

Yes, you can get away with that, but it would be against the spirit of the rule.
Mom, dad, and Joey are riding. Katie is not.
Mom and Joey get in the standby line. Dad gets a return pass for himself and Joey. Dad takes Katie to the splash pad to kill twenty minutes while mom and Joey ride. Dad returns to the standby line with Joey and the pass and rides the ride while mom stays behind with Katie.
Joey gets to ride twice, mom and dad ride once each. Katie never has to wait in the standby line.

Yet people are soaking that loophole all day every day to get around tiering issues the rest of us have to deal with.
I really wish they would fix this loophole before Galaxy's Edge opens.

Wait, the Disney site sounds like second rider enters thru the FP line... but after first waiting in a designated area?
Touring Plans says other party can be off doing something else..
What do you do? Do you stand and wait for the riders to finish and then go on with older child again?

You are given a return pass good for one adult and up to 2 additional riders. It's extremely rare for anyone in that additional group to be asked for a FP of their own.
Passes have an expiration date. It used to be the end of the month. Not sure how it is now. Some would save them up over the week and do a massive ride fest on their day.
Yes, people use Rider Swap as a touring strategy. It can effectively double a family's FP quota.
It used to not be a big deal because those without Rider Swap could just go get a new set of FPs and didn't have tiers to work around. Now that FPs to headliners are harder to come by, the advantage is more marked.

Thank you. The child who would be using rider swap is a 4 year old..he can’t do most of the headliners anyway, with the exception of 7DMT. Just wanted to make sure that not everyone has to wait during both rides with each parent.

We made use of the rider swap on our last couple of trips. The only place we had a problem was at Frozen ever after. They did not give us a rider swap pass, I told them (at that time my daughter was 3) that she did not like dark rides and boats. They said I could wait with her and then use my fastpass to ride by myself. That statement by them I believe goes against Disney's stated policy about riderswap and a child being able to enjoy the ride with both parents. I could have gotten into it with them but I did not and just waited and finished my wife's margarita. (Side note: Flight of Passage was not open when we went so we did not try it there.)

Thank you. I could see Frozen being an iffy one because of the lack of height restrictions, but I see your point there.
