Has anyone ever driven around Magic kingdom, past the contemporary and come out at GF ,I see on maps of Reams road and all of these streets but when I was there in July there are signs up saying Authorised vehicles only.Just wondering if anyone has attempted this and failed or tried and been beated mercilessly by Disney security or whatever.

I did it back in August... never was bothered by anyone, even when Disney Security was behind me. Was neat back there.

Hmm.. I noticed on Google earth That there is a road leading past the Contemporary to the Monorail Garage. Has anyone ever been back there?

I went back there somewhat late at night with a cast member friend and it was cool to watch them putting away the locomotive; we had to stop at a train signal while it crossed the road. I remember that we parked in the Disney University parking lot?? Not sure if that is what it is called. Also saw the monorail buildings all lit up inside at night. It's a strange other world back there.

Yeah, the monorail station is back there along with alot of the service areas for WDW. The road loops around to the Grand Floridian. Only thing to keep you out of that area is a small sign saying "authorized vehicals only". Course my view is if they really didn't want you back there, they would put up a guard shack ;)

Turning off of Reams Road onto Cast Dr. is a sign that says that only Cast Members, buisiness partners and guests may enter (that is paraphrased from memory so if anyone gets the exact wording please post). I figure if I'm going to the park I am a guest. Go south through the stop light to the stop sign. Straight ahead is the cast entrance to the Magic Kingdom (don't even THINK about going that way!). To the left you follow the monorail track to the Contemporary. To the right you swing behind Fantasyland and Fronteerland to the Grand Floridian. Now, when you make the curve south to head straight toward the GF, you'll see Maple Way bearing off to your right, to a heavily fortified gate. What is it protecting? Disney's on-site fireworks manufacturing area. Check it out!

That is so cool... the buildings are spaced out just like weapons bunkers used in the military. So, if one building catches on fire the others are far enough away to not be affected. I never knew Disney manufactured its own fireworks. I assumed they all came from China.

Ok, anyone know the locations from where they launch the MK fireworks? I see one area way back behind the castle on the far side of the canal to the north. I am really surprised it is so far in the distance. Anyone know the other actual launch areas?

LOL! we were typing the same question at the same time!

I guess so.

I know that Disney does manufacture its own pyrotechnics but I would not do it onsite. It would a field day for the media if something were to go wrong on Disney property. Although it does seem like a likely proposition. I have noticed that across from each building there are dry van cars with no tractor and large shipping containers alwaysin pairs. I wonder what they are for. The gate doesn't seem to be heavily fortified. There are nets placed around the buildings in order to keep building fragments from flying around. The buildings are designed to explode outwards immediately so there wouldn't be a huge explosion. In one of the picture, looking west, there is a large tractor-trailor unloading a bunch of boxes in front of one of the smaller buildings.

As for the launching site, I have seen aerial photos of the area aswell as bird's-eye-view photos and the location that you are talking about does seem like a likely place, but I think that there are too many launch tube structures. The gate here is indeed more fortified than the Maple Road one. There are also 2 trucks blocking the entry.

Yep. That's the site.

The fireworks site north of the MK *is* the main launching site for the MK fireworks. The aerials photos pre-date Wishes, so there aren't any of the Fantasyland launch sites built yet. To see those, check out local.live.com for newer photos. They're arranged mostly in a staggered line from Pan to Pooh.

And the perimeter fireworks for the Halloween and Christmas parties are temporary set-ups along the railroad track.

Our resident pyro tech on here can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe that Disney manufactures *any* of their pyro (on-site or otherwise). The facility on Maple Road is strictly for storage. There's fences around the perimeter, but not as visible on the aerial photos are that each building is protected by a network of lightning rods on tall towers. (You can see those on local.live.com too)

I am gonna drag this fireworks topic right through the mud... so, is the area in the following link, the area at the end of maple rd a fireworks testing area? If you zoom way in, you see they keep it mowed short presumably to prevent a field or brush fire.

I can't zoom in far enough to tell how short the grass is cut. :p

However, this area looks to be a sandpit or landfill.

I was using a trajectory shadow algorithm to determine the shadow length from the largest piece of grass I could see. Using a reflectivity annonometer, I was able to resolve that the grass is approximately 2"-3" in height and is most probably of the St Augustine species. So, you see, it is in fact, short. :lookaroun

3" St.Augustine is indeed in need of a mowing !!

However erroneous, I appreciate the scientific methodology used to arrive at your hypothesis.
