Review of Cars Land

What I found interesting is his analysis of Disneyland as a viable alternative to WDW:

This means that Anaheim has also arrived as a worthy -- and some might argue superior —- alternative to Orlando vacations. The proof is mounting: Compared to Orlando, many of the rides at Disneyland are more elaborate; better still, they’re usually the original version. Classic rides have been demolished in Florida but remain in California.

Interesting indeed! I'm not sure if the writer is a fan of anything Disney in general. The "digs" @ WDW are obvious! "The largest air hockey board in the world" is an observation that doesn't surprise me, and calling a ride "The Whip" is just too much! To say the details of Carsland rivals or is less than that of Harry Potter is quite something! I'd love to read a "rebuttal" on this article and/or other opinions.:p

I wonder why that is?

While true in some cases, the opposite is true in others. Disneyland still has versions of Mr. Toad, Snow White's Scary Adventures, and Submarines, while WDW has versions of the PeopleMover, the Country Bears, and CircleVision, all of which have since been lost at Disneyland.

A true hallmark of Disneyland is its dedication to show and ride maintenance, where rides (like the previously mentioned Snow White) are frequently refreshed and updated to feature more modern presentation and up-to-date AAs. Watching the fluidity of the AAs in Disneyland's Pirates, or the fiber-optics used in Peter Pan's Flight, puts our equivalent attractions to shame.

I'm a delivery driver, so I see tons of people every day. I could not believe all of the people who brought up Carsland to me on Monday... I think maybe as many people as have brought up any non-local story over the past six years. Not just people who know I'm a Disney nut, either. Also people who told me they were thinking of taking their kids or they thought that my kids might like it. And this is in Buffalo, NY. I don't think we ever got a Disneyland commercial before June 2012. I'm absolutely fascinated to see what happens with the DLR attendance.

Interesting that this hit the NYPost, which of course caters the northeast crowd, where WDW vacations are king. The fact that he points out Disneyland as a worthy, if not superior competitor to WDW (which it is) is certainly interesting for a New York tabloid. Quite telling, really....

Yes, exactly.

I have been commenting on that exact topic for a couple years now, much to the apparent annoyance and anger of some other folks here on these boards. But the facts remain; Disneyland is quite clearly excelling in overall maintenance at attractions and facilities, particularly when it comes to animatronics, audio quality, lighting, regularly refreshed decorative elements, and upgraded technology.

The sum of this progress at Disneyland Resort is a 57 year old theme park that sparkles like I've never seen it sparkle in my 40+ years of visiting, and a companion park next door that just vaulted itself to the Top 3 secondary parks of all time next to Epcot and DisneySea.

Why this is, at two properties owned by the same company inside the same country, I have no idea. But the differences have grown from minor issues in the last decade, to still-growing chasms of obvious difference in this decade.

That's interesting, but not at all surprising. But you know what I find interesting and surprising? That the guy from the New York Post (about as foreign in Orange County, California as the Martian Gazette would be), somehow found the delightfully charming and hip Olde Town Orange area 10 minutes east of the Disneyland Resort.

Anaheim even has an analog to Orlando’s wealthy enclave Winter Park: the idyllic, gastropub-and-antiques town square of Orange, 10 minutes east,...

I have a standing table every few weeks at The Haven gastropub in Orange, and The Bruery Provisions beer and cheese shop keeps me stocked for patio parties, and the antique shops and boutiques there are always worth a look. How hilarious that little 'ol Orange made the mention in the NY Post's article on Cars Land and the superiority of Disneyland over WDW. :p

For those looking to get off Disney property and have a fun night out, in classic Orange County style, I recommend the following in Olde Town Orange...

From Miceage: "EDITOR’S NOTE 6/20: After DCA broke attendance records twice over the weekend with 45,000+ visitors per day, they broke the records again on Tuesday with 53,000 visitors at DCA. The suits are smiling as Disneyland held its own with 47,000 visitors on Tuesday. And yes, DCA is now getting more visitors per day than Disneyland. Thrilling the Anaheim team even more is the fact that DCA felt busy with a once unthinkable 53K, but that the overall park vibe was upbeat and had manageable wait times outside of Cars Land."
