General Park News - (6/20/12) While I haven’t heard of a timeline for this, rumor has it that Revenge of the Mummy will be going to get a rehab in the near future. From the sound of things, the rehab will alter the entrance area and façade of the ride a bit on the outside, and see some improvements made to the lighting, animatronics and projection effects on the inside. I’m not sure if they will need to close the ride to perform any of this work, or if they will be able to work on the ride scene portions of the rehab during the overnight hours instead. Anyone know more?

Saw on Twitter the other day that the scarab room projector had been upgraded. They might actually be getting this thing looking good! An entrance area rework would be a major plus - the rope queue is a mess and I'd like to see something better done outside. And, of course, it'd be lovely if they could get Imhotep running like he did in the beginning. Can't wait to see what else they wind up doing in there.

Also heard a bit about this - specifically, shiny new 4K projectors throughout the ride. Supposedly it's only been installed in the Scarab scene thus far -- no word yet on if they'll actually redo the animation (ala Spider-Man) to do the high quality projection justice.

Here's hoping they fix the lighting across the board, restore the animatronics (particularly Imhotep I), and use Singapore's ending instead of the coffee vid I still can't believe made it into the final attraction. Anything else I'd consider icing on the cake.

I actually kind of like the ending...

Yeah, it is very corny/cheesy, but I still like it.

Agree to disagree, I guess. Even if you understand the scene in context (since it's explained in the over-long preshow video), it's still a pretty dumb ending. They literally appear to have ran out of money for a proper ending. It's embarrassing.

not having visited in like, 4 years, whats wrong with imhotep? does he not look like this any more:

and i can't say i noticed the original ending before... it is kind of lame which is probably why it never stuck out. it's like they had to shove brendan fraser in there somewhere and that's the only way they could do it.

The ride was relatively low budget for an E-ticket. They only spent 30-40 million.

I'll be interested to see if anything comes of this. This ride never met my expectations, but I've (mostly) learned to accept it for what it is. I'd love to see it improved though. Can we replace the brutal lap bars while we're at it?

One big reason it only cost them $40 million was because they used an existing building. I agree with some others about the ending being silly...I get it, but would've liked a better payoff. Aside from that though, the Florida version of Revenge of the Mummy is one of my all time favorite rides. I'd love to see an update...better animatronics like the ones in Hollywood, maybe a few things added to the ride, and the update on any screens/projectors would be welcome.

As for the lap bar, ive never had a problem with it.

A list of changes I think would make Revenge of the Mummy into a world class attraction...

-Add one creepy "alive" Mummy in the first portion of winding corridors as a means of foreshadowing. Nothing fancy, just a simple generic Mummy figure amongst the rest of the mummified corpses that has glowing eyes and moves a bit. It's done in Hollywood quite well right before the first video screen, if you need an example of what I'm talking about.

-Redo the Imhotep I sequence. The dialogue and the way the scene plays out is fine... but the lighting was changed somewhere between opening and now, and it's much too bright. Imhotep I's robotic arm is painfully obvious. Dim everything down to opening day levels. Reggie (the mummified tourist) doesn't move much at all anymore. They've gradually replaced Imhotep I's problematic hydraulic parts with less fluid (but more reliable) pneumatic parts... which results in a poorer performance. If they have to stick with pneumatics, at least try and tone down his movements so he doesn't move like a cartoon skipping frames.

-In the transition between Imhotep I and the Treasure Room, add the "falling limbs" sequence from Hollywood to sell the fact that the Mummies are now alive and coming after you, along with filling some dead space. Again, watch an on-ride video from Hollywood to get an idea of what I'm talking about.

-In the treasure room, look into replacing the dated/obvious CGI with (great idea from another forum) some sort of musion projection effect (ala Harry Potter & Disaster). Meanwhile, replace the Warrior Mummy dummies with actual animatronics that have some animation. They don't have to spring up like the current ones do, they can be still and visible for the duration of the sequence until Imhotep "summons" them, which is when they can spring to life.

-In the Scarab Room, again, tone down the brightness. The screen is much more obvious than it ever was.

-Turntable sequence... unfortunately, again, brightness. This change was recent but I'm not the only one who has noticed it - lighting has been turned up significantly, making the CGI Imhotep hard to see and the curtains and catwalks that surround us very obvious.

-Simply give us Singapore's ending with the banging coffin and a CGI projection of Imhotep getting sucked into it. Wouldn't be too hard to execute in the space they have, and it would give the ride a much more meaningful conclusion.

Well at least they kill him off...

Rode this attraction for the first time last year, and everything seemed to be working "fine."
Inhotep's animatronic looked pretty jerky, but Universal has so few full-motion animatronics it was just nice to see SOMETHING moving around.
The one thing I thought was kind of cheap was the array of dayglow plywood cut screamy faces you whizz by during the coaster segments. I don't think this is the right attraction for vintage laugh-in-the-dark stunts.

Maybe they could replace these at some point with a couple OLED screens- the ones that supposedly last a long time and have perfectly black blacks so as not to look like screens at all.
