Visit http://www.ioahq.com for more details on the main page.

I'm quite shocked as well as angry at Universal for this one. Disney's Annual Passholder previews work out so well because the dates of the previews are spread out....unlike Universal, which holds theirs only one night (the Shrek 4-D preview had outrageously long lines....but then I visit Mickey's PhilarMagic previews, and I walk right in). As of now, I won't be able to attend this one (night of my school's Athletic Banquet as well), so no coverage of the event will be provided (at least from me, hopefully someone else can).

Right now, I'm so mad at Universal, I'm thinking of cancelling two planned trips over the summer. I will be visiting Memorial Day though, but I will have to wait in a 2 hour+ line. :(

First of all... it isn't being called a passholder "preview" it is a passholder "event." It's hard to have a preview of something that will already be open by that time. Also, it is being offered two nights. May 21st and May 22nd. The lines might be long but they will certainly be shorter than the regular guests will have to deal with.

There are actually two nights of AP previews, May 21st and May 22nd from 8pm to 12pm. It is my understanding that you have already been assigned to a particular night when you received your invitation Expect them to be quite busy though as there is limited time for AP previews (total of 8 hours for Mummy vs the 36 hours for Disney AP holders when MS previewed)

Does it really matter what it is called? Its the same thing either way...a special time for AP holders only.

Sorry about that guys, just read that there were two nights. At least they're having two nights of previewing.....I mean, two "event" nights.

Anyways.....I won't face Imhotep until Memorial Day, since I won't be able to make it to the event because of previous commitments. But I do know that I will get to the gates of USF as early as possible Memorial Day, and pick up an Express Plus pass. That way I can wait an hour instead of two or three. :D

100 % no..

They are using this time to prep for its continue opening schedule. Installing the animatronics. Putting on it's skins. Etc

Actually, Screamscape is reporting a soft opening as early as May 14th. I also know a few sites have been reporting the same, so there still could be a chance.

By the way (for anyone interested), forget what I had said before, because I will be attending the AP event Saturday the 22nd.

And they may be actually putting in the real ending to the ride. According to this article: http://www.sptimes.com/2004/04/19/Business/Old_mummy__new_thrills.shtml

Quote from article: "The ride's big ending was conspicuously missing, that part of the script remained shrouded in secrecy. Marketers insisted on withholding a few surprises to hype how this ride plays on people's fears of the unexpected."

From what I have been hearing it seems this had the worst ending to an attraction since.......Kongfrontation (man it must be the curse of the building  ) during the TR's. Let's hope this article is true and they do actually put a good ending on this. This might end up being my favorite "ride" at USF (I really only care for T2-3D and Shrek 4-D. MIB and BTTF are overrated, IMO).

I could end up being quite surprised, but I believe the ending that was there during the TRs is the finished ending. Unless after hearing the reaction from guests they came up with a quick solution to fix the lackluster ending, the ending that was seen was the way it was originally planned according to folks from UC that some people got a chance to talk to. If they are changing it, don't expect anything to major to change, but even little things such as different audio or narrative could help and would be cheaper (i.e. Have some voice yell...Look, the Magi Symbol...we're saved...or something  )

SPOILER
The big "secret" ending Universal touted before in their press releases is in fact the fake unload and the short coaster portion afterwards (hence the "surprise" ending). The author of the article makes no mention he was told the ending was missing, sounds more like he assumed the ending was missing, like a lot of people who rode it. It probably was the worst ending for a ride of all time.

As of now there are even more AP Event dates. There is the 21st and 22nd as well as the 23rd, 28th, 31st and I've even heard mention of June 7th. As for the fake unload, what I have been hearing form other websites is that they are putting some sort of animatronic in here that will make this scene better then what it is. Personally I think the current scene is a snoozefest. So whatever they maybe doing to it should make it better then its current state, but the coaster part after it is awesome!:D

Imhotep is being put in. They are installed * all the animatronics in the ride * and are missing their skins. They are getting those soon. Its coming.

Thats exactly what I have been hearing. All of the actual animatronics are in place. BUT the skins/ any necessary painting is not done yet. Also they are toying with timing, and the lighting, sounds, and all of the other hundreds of effects that they have to get working exactly in time. So it is quite some work for them, but I know they will be able to do it and do it well. I just can't wait to see these brand new animatronics. The current Reggie is hilarious and I will miss him, but I can't wait to see this new Reggie and the Imhotep who silences him. Then the fake unload, I can't wait to see what is going to happen with this, the little screen is no where near enough.

Yea it WAS having technical rehersals, but they ended the day I was there last month. I've been on it 10 times, but now only some of the employee's are riding it, they are toying with timing and lighting and sounds and all of the other little details that need to be worked out before opening, and they are still working on the skins for the animatronics and putting the animatroics through its paces to see if they can imporve it to make it as best as they can.

Soft openings are looking to start around May 10th. :D

Anyone on the site going to be there for opening day festivities? I know IOAHQ will be having coverage. I'm not going to the AP Previews until May 31st, sadly. :(

I'll be ther from May 13th to 26th...any suggestions for me to actually get on this ride. I have a 5 day park pass so if I have to spend a day getting on it I will

Get to Universal before opening. RUN and jump into the stand by line. In the morning it should be between 15-30 minutes and gradually grow. Then after your ride if you like what you see grab express passes and go again.
