Return to Neverland

How many people are excited about this new movie? For me, Peter Pan's Flight is the best ride in Fantasyland, and I love the 1953 Disney animated classic. But on seeing the commercials for this new film, I'm not very impressed with the animation. I love the animation from the original, and even the animation from more recent films like Aladdin and Beauty & The Beast. I've read reviews of this new movie from several places online and the animation is part of their criticism of the movie. Anyone else not too impressed from what's been shown thus far?

Does anyone else have this problem: It's almost embarassing, so please don't laugh. Every time I watch Peter Pan, I begin to cry. Me, a 28 (Well, I'll be 28 on Valentine's Day) year old man crying at a cartoon. I don't know why... The live action movie Hook also has this bizarre effect.

Any suggestions on how to avoid this?

I don't see any reason you need to avoid it. While I don't come to tears or anything, I love the Peter Pan movie as well as Hook because both give me the same feeling that I get each time I first set foot in Disney World. Aladdin's the only other Disney animated film that does that too.

Me personally...

Well, as far as the movie goes, the only bit of the animation that looked really sub-par was the CG bit when they sail the pirate ship back to neverland. I also didn't like the music that well.

As far as crying during a movie, well, Schindler's List had a tear running down my cheek at the end, but the only disney movie this has happened with was Winnie the Pooh.
I know it sounds stupid, but a large group of my classmates were all watching it our senior year of H.S. and when it gets to the part where Pooh and Christopher Robin are talking about him going away to school, and how they would never forget each other, it kind of had a deeper meaning for all of us since we were in a similar situation. But had I been watching it alone, I doubt this would have been the case. I will end now before causing a serious THREAD DRIFT...:dazzle:

The animation is definately not as good as Lilo or the original. Why, because this was originally supposed to be a direct to video release. Now, if Walt Disney Feature Animation made the sequels, too, well, I doubt they'd want to, but if they did, the animation would be much better. Walt Disney Television Animation made Return to Neverland, but it does look better than the sequels we are used to. Well, at least now you won't need to buy it to make your disney animated movie collection complete.

Sigh. I never grew up. I love Peter Pan, it is one of my all time favorite movies. And I have seen several previews of the new movie and the animation looks just fine to me. Maybe I am somewhat (ok, a lot) jaded, but I am really looking forward to this movie. I want the posters too. And they are releasing a deluxe DVD of the original Peter Pan on Feb 12th. With lots of behind the scenes stuff too. I will get that one for sure. Did not get it on DVD when it first came out as I have it on VHS and Laser Disc. I was hoping they would do a deluxs version, and now here it is. See, magic does happen and wishes do come true if you beleive.

Doesn't look as good but it's not Disney main season movie this movie just was to brong in some cash on a low budget movie just like Snow Dogs which is doing good at the box-office 3 weeks at number 2 so that may a good sign for this movie that many families want to see a movie.

partly because there is nothing else out...also because I think Sept. 11th drew families back together so they are more likely to see a good, wholesome disney movie together. Certainly Lilo and Stitch seems to match the old disney style (not the recent, crappy style...I hated Dinosaur and Atlantis), so this could spell nice profits for disney. It's that damn Reign of Fire they need to worry about. I'll tell you one thing, if they don't start advertising it NOW, it won't make ANY money!

I do not know if this has been answered already or not? Why is Return to Neverland being released to theaters? As far as a can remember all other animated movies(sequels) have been released directly to home video. All always thought it was kind of classy on Disneys part not to release all these sequels to theaters - if they were not going to put effort into a top-notch movie.

My guess is that they are releasing it now, because there isn't a whole lot out there right now, I know there are a couple big movies coming out, but they were pushed back after 9-11. February-April are pretty slow months with few blockbusters.
I think Disney is just trying to make a buck where they can. Just look at Snow Dogs. I think that PP2 will bring people in just because of the Disney name and the Peter Pan name.

L&S looks pretty good based on the BATB commercial. I think its going to be better than Tarzan, Dinosaur. I don't think it will be quite as good as Aladdin, BATB, Lion King.

Maybe disney released it to the movies because of the message .. it seemed a very important one to me and after seeing the movie I came away thinking that it helps .. to have faith and trust .. and pixie dust ..specially after 9/11

Well, I went last Saturday to see the movie at Downtown Disney in Anaheim, next to Disneyland. I loved it. I know that the animation is some sequences is not up to feature standards, but there were some parts during the beginning that were awesome. Peter is presented closer to the book version than in the original. He is wicked, michevious, everything-is-a-game and forgetful. He very seldom touches down and walks, mostly flying and floating around. The Lost Boys all have names, and Jane is pretty tough for a little girl. She saves Peter and Tink.
It is number 5 at the theaters this week and has made over $45 million already, which could make it Disney's most profitable picture this year considering how little they made it for.
Go see it. The end is very touching.

this is the third sequal to make it to the theater. Rescuers down under was the first, Toy Story 2 was the second.

If they feel that it is a decent movie and can sell tickets, then it's off to the theater
