Restaurant Questions

My husband's family and my husband and I are going to WDW in July. We have a number of different food tastes, so I have some questions - what is the best place to get seafood (and if possible that wouldn't be super expensive) - How's Coral Reef, Cape May, Blue Zoo, Flying Fish? Also, what is your opinion on Boma vs. Jiko? How is the Artist's Point? Any other good ideas for a fun place but to accomodate "healthy eaters?" Thanks so much.

Artists Point is Awesome. As for the seafood restaurants you ask about, they are all supposed to be great, but I havent been to any. See the menus and prices on allearsnet. com. All those seafood restaurants are quite pricey. the only seafood restaurant I have been to at WDW is Fulton's Crab House at DTD. I recommend it and can state it is less expensive than some of the restaurants you named.

The Coral Reef is a great dining experience. The fish tank serves as one of the walls of the restaurant, so you get to watch sharks, turtles, etc. swim by as you eat. The food is excellent, but it is very expensive. My family and I really enjoyed the Boma and plan to go back soon. Here are some suggestions for each park:

Magic Kingdom: Tony's Town Square
EPCOT: Canada or France
MGM: 50's Prime Time: It's another dining experience. The food is pretty basic, but it's a good time
Animal Kingdom: Tusker House

Polynesian Resport: Ohana

I've enjoyed Coral Reef in the past, and I have heard VERY good things about Todd English's Blue Zoo at the Dolphin. I don't think you can go wring with any of the restaraunts you have chosen!

There are several seafood options around WDW. I did not like the food at Coral Reef, but I live on the Gulf Coast where you can find some of the BEST seafood in the world. Coral Reef was very bland....just plain bad. The serving sizes were pretty small, too. The atmosphere is pretty cool. I really loved being able to see tank and all the fish while we ate. I've heard really good things about Cape May and BlueZoo. If you eat at either of them, report back here; I'd like to hear how you liked it. Fulton's in DTD is pretty good. It is by far the best seafood I've had at Disney.

I'd try Boma over Jiko. Boma is less expensive and has a pretty good variety. Jiko is more "upscale."

Check out the menus and reviews at www.allearsnet.com. That might help you with your decisions.

I hope you have a wonderful trip next month. I'm sure I don't have to tell you how hot it is going to be. My family will be there, also. (See sig below:) )

We just loved BlueZoo when we ate there last November. The seafood was very fresh and top quality. The decor is stunning. My only complaint is we were there relatively late in the evening with one of the last seatings. The place was kinda dead. It's the kinda restaurant that benefits from a happenin crowd. But other than that, it was top notch!

Our other favorite restaurant is Citricos at Grand Floridian. They have a good mix of grilled meats and seafood. Great wine list, amazing service. Everything has a slight mediterrean twist. We've been dining high end at the world for the last 7 years. Of all the places at WDW, Criticos has been the most consistantly dazzling.

However neither are what I would call inexpensive.

If you're wanting seafood on a budget, I would recommend Narcoossee's at the Grand Flordian. They have a wonderful menu of fish and shell fish, good atmoshpere, and a wonderful view of the Magic Kingdom. Great place to watch Wishes or the Electrical Water Pageant. The prices are a bit less than Citricos and BlueZoo but the service is no less Disney.

On to Animal Kingdom Logde:
Boma and Jiko are both great. Boma is an all you can eat buffet and has a varried offering from night to night. The atmosphere is definatly more family oriented (ie lots of kids) than other places you've listed. The food is good and this format affords you the best chance to try several different African tastes. Since it is all you can eat, this is definatly the place for "healthy eaters". Jiko is a more formal sit down restaurant. The menu is good but a bit more eclectic that other resort restaurants at WDW. Both will be very crowded with hour plus waits so make sure you have an advanced reservation.

And finally Wilderness Lodge:
If you like the cuisine of the Pacific Northwest, Artist Point is for you. Trout, Salmon, and Buffalo are featured on their menu. The restaurant affords a good view of the pool and courtyard area at the wilderness lodge during the early evening. Go for anything stuffed with squash or pumpkin.

If you have a chance, go over to Deb Will's site and check out menus with prices for all of the above restaurants at http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/menus.htm

I agree. I've been to both and Jiko is more expensive. Also with a larger group, sometimes a buffet can be a good, since it offers a wide variety so that everyone in the group can find things they like.

Between Flying Fish & Coral Reef, I'd go to Flying Fish. I think the food is much better there (FF). Last time I was at coral reef, the service and food left a lot to be desired.
