We've ate at a lot of other Epcot restaurants and many were upbeat, energetic. There were also never any problems to be had with the food. Restaurant Marrakesh, unfortunately, broke that streak for us. It's a shame too, the build up of walking through the middle eastern alley and into an elaborate restaurant was soon dulled but what felt like a simple, 'what's up?' from the girl at the front desk.
We next proceeded to wait quite a while for our server, which is fine by me, it gave me sometime to look around and people watch (a favorite past-time of mine). IMO, it seemed like not one server wanted to be there. The place missed any energy and was almost eerily quiet. I'm deducing it may be a cultural thing, but if it was, it was not what I wanted from a restaurant at Disney World.
Our server finally came and, since we already had drinks from outside and had been sitting a while, we placed our orders immediately. For an appetizer we had the Chicken Bastilla. It ended up being very dry, and while i don't frequent Moroccan food, seemed to be too dry (as in it sat in a heat window for a while dry). Since service was hard to come by, I decided to be the one at the table that could finish the dry 'treat'.
For our entrees I had the Roast Lamb Meshoui and my wife had the Shish Kebab. Now I have ate some pretty crazy foods in some pretty crazy countries. I have accepted the fact I will regret eating things sometimes. That being said I didn't regret the lamb meshoui, but I sure didn't like the plate. So much so, I had to pawn it off on my wife for the rest of her kebab (she has a tendency not to taste things the same way I do). At least the Shish Kebab was good, but nothing that you couldn't get off a truck at the same quality. At this point, we had enough of our disappointing experience and got the bill asap so we could leave.
Overall, I'd rather dine at a simple place like the Captain's Grille or something else in walking distance if i want a simple, eerily quiet meal. If I want what I expect from Epcot then I'll stick with the Germany's, England's and pretty much every other country around the world. It's unfortunate, but I cannot say we'd ever go to Restaurant Marrakesh ever again.
