Resources at Disney for Digital Camera Users

We are planning a trip in April '04 and are taking a digital camera with us. We prefer to have smaller size cards, so that we don't have all of our pictures on one card in case something happens to it. My question is, are there resources available at Disney or Resorts where we could transfer (burn) our pictures onto a CD-Rom at the end of each day? This would save us from having to buy a card for every day we are there.

I have heard that request before but not sure if they do have it. One person said they thought there was someplace on Main Street in the MK that you could do that, but no mention of the other parks. I would call WDW guest relations to see if they can get you the answer.

If not and you need to buy cards, Amazon is running some really nice deals right now on CF cards. You can get a 128 mb for $27.00 or a 256 mb for 36.00. Here is a link:

Good luck!

I had heard that the Kodak store in the Imagination pavillion provides this service. I myself am planning on buying the adapter that will let me transfer pics from memory cards to my iPod. That way I can shoot all I want to and not have to spend a small fortune having them transferred to CD at Disney prices!

That sounds cool. Where can I find out about the adapter?

Seems like a good deal to me at $99. Since I get maybe 40 pics to a 128MB card and they cost $40 a piece this could save me a lot of money.

And it's battery powered so I could put it in my camera bag and use it whenever I needed to. Now if a hadn't just blown a small fortune on a new camera I could afford to buy it. :)

Thanks I will consider it before my next trip. I usually take my laptop so I might not do it. I thought it might be smaller that the picture shows. I would probably just go back to my hotel at night and download. I already have several 256 mb cards.

Besides my camera is tiny so I really don't have a bag. It is just a little neoprene glove for it that goes on your belt.

I bought the Canon S400. What kind of camera do you buy?

I got a Canon Digital Rebel. I really love the camera but small is the last thing I would call it. :) That's why being able to tranfer to the iPod is so appealing. The less I can put in the camera bag the happier I will be.

That is suppose to be an exellent camera. I am saving for the Canon 10D. When I bought my S400, I wanted the 10D but was out of my range, but I wanted something now too. I figured if I bought something bigger than the S400 that needed a bag I would never use it once I got my 10D. With the S400 I can still use it everyday and use the 10D for planned photo outings. I hope to have enough by the end of the 1st qtr next year. My original plan was the end of this year, but I can't swing it. How do you like the Rebel?

Overall I am really pleased with the Rebel. For the price difference I feel like I haven't given up anything vital over the 10D. I also appreciate how much smaller and lighter the Reb is compared to the 10D. Image quality seems to be identical and it is just a lot fun to take pics with. Accessing all the controls and settings is so much easier and more logical than on my old cam (Fuji 6900z).

The only complaint I have is that the first Rebel I got would not take a sharp picture no matter what I did. I don't know if it was the body or the kit lens that came with it. Since I swapped the body and lens out for a new kit everything has been perfect. It's really no surprise that there are a few bad ones out there considering they are producing 70K units a month! That's a lot of cameras.

In answer to the question about getting digital pictures downloaded to a CD, this option is now available in all the parks. Last year it was only at the Imagination Pavilion, but they have moved this service to the camera store by Spaceship Earth, and apparently there is one such location in each park. So I was told at least. :)

It is expensive (much more than last year), it was a little over $30, but then I had over 200 pictures downloaded :D . If you drop your disk off before 10:00 am, then it will be ready at 2:00pm, drop it off before 2:00pm and get it at 6:00pm. Same day.

At that price though you could just buy extra CF cards. That is too steep for my blood.

I had heard good things about the Rebel. The only reason I was still thinking 10D was it is suppose to be a little faster and let you take more pictures in a quick burst. I may still go the Rebel route but I need to think on it.

Thanks for the info.

I couldn't agree more. When I turned my disk in, I assumed the price hadn't increased that much from last year. That was my mistake. By the time I got my disk back it was obviously too late to do anything but pay for it.

Next time, I will bring some means to download photos myself, get extra cards, or try to be a little more controlled in my picture taking :D .

Thanks for the info. I think we will just buy some additional cards and take them with us. It would be nice if you could rent cards. Seems a shame to buy them when we really don't need them except for our trip. But with the cost of cards coming down, it would probably be cheaper to just buy them.

I agree. But the prices that I put the link to in my first post are pretty reasonable so it is not too bad. A few years ago it was crazy expensive. The first 128 MB card I bought 3 years ago was like $150.00.

As with most things - it's more exspensive in the parks. If you need to clear your memory cards why not try to find the nearest Wal-Mart. We visited WDW a month ago and found the local Wal-Mart to our villa (on the 27) $3 for the transfer and 6x4 pts at 28cents and all done in one hour!:sohappy:
