Resort room requests

Hey all!
I'm looking for the best way to make room requests, besides through My Disney Experience.
Do you call the general reservation phone number or the resort specific phone number?
How many days in advance from check in do you make your call?
Any tips, tricks, and advice would be greatly appreciated! :]

I'd love to hear some of your experiences and if you found one method to work best!

The best way we've found is through Touring Plans, as we've never failed to get the room we wanted when we've done it with them.

We also make our requests using touringplans.com's room request feature, which involves them sending a fax to your resort for you. Use their room finder tool to find the kind of room you want within your reserved category (https://touringplans.com/walt-disney-world/room-finder), and then click the link at the top of the page for that room to configure a fax request for it, which touringplans will automatically send to the resort 30 days before your visit.

Just make sure that if you use this service, you don't make any requests on the online room check-in request feature in MDE, as that will cancel out requests made by other means.

We've had good luck with the touringplans faxes, getting our requested room or building (or something close to it) almost every time.

Thank you all for your advice!
Has anyone used TP for requesting connecting rooms? I know Disney says this is not always a guarantee but I'm wondering if TP has been more successful?

Should you do virtual check in before making the request through touringplans.com? Do you add any other requests to the room request feature? I am looking to add a crib to my request.

Timing of online check-in doesn’t matter. But don’t choose any room requests options from the drop down, just leave it blank.

The Touring Plans wording is in “room assigner speak” as it were, so leave that as is. They know what it means even though it looks odd.

However it’s fine to add free form text to it. Many people like to explain why they want that room (eg: I’d like a room overlooking the Sunset Savannah” or “we’d really like to be able to see the golf course”). By all means add in that you’d like a crib. I would also go to the front desk when you arrive to ask.

You can do online checkin as normal, just leave the room request question blank. It only offers general options like, "near elevator" or "near transportation" anyway. You can make your room and crib requests via a touringplans fax.

You would need to add both reservations to your dashboard.

You would then do a room request for both, each one referencing the other reservation #. I would make connecting rooms your #1 request and make it clear that supersedes any others. But if possible make it your only request.

We did room request by calling reservation booked several months in advance. We arrived on Sunday and our son and daughter in law and granddaughters were arriving on Wednesday and requested joining rooms. Had no problems this was in May 2019 POFQ

Make sure you request "connecting" rooms if you want the door to open between the two rooms. An "adjoining" room is something different--it'll just be 2 rooms next to each other.

When my parents went with us and stayed at CSR, we somehow were able to list on both of our reservations that we wanted "connecting" rooms (maybe I called Disney and requested this or MDE app was different back in '16 and allowed you to type in the request). Either way, we made sure we checked in at the front desk and politely asked if they received our request and did they have any rooms available that were connecting? We ended up in the back-40--literally we were in the haciendas waaaay at the very end/back of the resort, but I couldn't complain as we got what we asked for 😊
