Reservations with Florida resident?

Hello all! So two friends and I are thinking of a trip to The World in September. Me and one of my friends lives in Illinois but our other friend lives in Florida and I was wondering if anyone knew how it would work in terms of booking a single hotel room for all three of us but trying to get my friend the Florida resident tickets for the stay?

If you book a room only reservation, you each buy your own tickets and they are not related to your room in any way, so you and your Illinois friend could buy tickets anywhere, including a reputable online discounter like maple leaf or undercover tourist. your friend would need to get his florida resident ticket from WDW. to the best of my knowledge he would save about $50 on a 4 day pass.
however, if you plan to purchase a package- that means room and tickets together- everyone in the room must be on the same package. so the florida guy would also have to purchase a ticket with the package. it could be a minimal one day ticket, and i don't think it can be upgraded/exchanged for a florida ticket, so he would have to also buy that if he wanted one, but then you and your friend would have to get the same one day ticket and also upgrade. Again, not sure that really saves money and quite the hassle.
it would seem to me that you are better off with a room only reservation and buy tickets separately, so he can get his own florida resident ticket.

If your friend from Florida books the room in his name, but you two also staying in the room he can get the Fl Resident Discount on the room. You could all buy your own tickets him using a Florida Resident pass. If you are a member of AAA they sell discounted tickets for FL Residents and Non Residents. Even if they offer a free dinning for that time the room rate for FL Resident may be cheaper. Usually for free dinning you would have to pay room full price and each buy a 2 day ticket.

What you will do will be determined by if you are purchasing a package or not.

If you want the dining plan, you must book a package. There is no way around that. If that is the case, the Florida resident will have to pay full price for tickets as there is no "Florida resident package". You can still get Florida resident room discounts if you do this.

If you do not want the dining plan, booking a room only reservation and buying your tickets separately will be the best way to go. The Florida resident can buy Florida resident tickets and you can either buy tickets at the gates or through an authorized re-seller such as Maple Leaf.

For us the Florida Resident room discount has always more than covered our dining. Have your friend book the room in his name and add the other 2 of you as also staying in the room. Doing everything separate is usually cheaper anyways because the WDW packages are often overpriced.

When everything is the same, a package and everything done separately are nearly identical in price. There can be a slight difference (usually less than a buck or two) due to a difference to to the way a few things are taxed, but that is it. A package also gets you a number of freebies such as arcade credit, discounts at restaurants, etc.

Of the ones we've looked at, doing everything separate has always been cheaper for us. Most of the "freebies" that are offered we wouldn't use. Perhaps it's just the times we go or how we dine
