Reservations Necessary?

We have made some reservations already at places like Le Cellier for our upcoming trip in August... however, we also tend to eat at places like ESPN and Planet Hollywood. The last time we went 2 years ago, there may have been a average wait, but we were able to get in without too much trouble. I've been hearing nightmare stories about restaurants being over-booked... should I be making reservations for places like ESPN too?

I would make dining reservations at every place that will take them. The DDP and free dinning promotions have really made it almost impossible to do any walk up dinning regardless of what time of year you are traveling.

I know Planet Hollywood doesn't take reservations. We eat there every trip and the only time we had a wait was after Cirque one night. It was about a 2.5 hour wait and we were bored, so we just wandered around DTD for a couple hours.
Now we go for lunch and get in without a wait.

I don't know for sure about ESPN, but I don't think they take reservations either..

Disney Dining told me the past two years that PH didn't take reservations... is that new?
It seems to float back and forth with the non Disney restaurants at DTD. Sometimes you can make reservations through Disney and at other times you have to call the restaurant directly. Next time you are on property you can get an information booklet that has the phone numbers for all of the DTD restaurants. A couple trips ago I put them all in my cell phone and have found it quite handy to have.

I have booked planet hollywood for this september. I book everything in advance to avoid waiting about or being dispointed

Everytime I have gone for the last 2 years, I have made reservations with no problems.
I have them for the second week in December for this year. The only thing I had to do is wait until exactly 180 days out.
Maybe they said you couldn't make reservations because of the size of your party? I only have 3 in mine.

I would go ahead a make them...you can always cancel them if you decide to go somewhere else..

Well jeez, color me misinformed  There's only two of us. Oh well, we go for lunch now on a day we get up late and it's never been crowded.

Of course, next time it will be, just because I'm having this conversation.
