Reschedule for Star Wars Weekend???

Here's the deal: We are going the first ten days of May. We chose May because it seems like a good combination of nice weather and low crowds. We also picked May because of Star Wars WE. My kids are 4 and 5 and love Star Wars. Now, of course, I learn that Star Wars WE does not start until May 14th.

I suspect that I would not have a problem resceduling my trip at this point. I cannot imagine that the resorts are all booked yet. However, I would certainly lose my Cindy's breakfast reservations.

Here are my questions:

1. How many different characters are typically on hand? My kids will probably not appreciate seeing the actual actors. But seeing Darth Mal and others would probably be the highlight of their trip.

2. How frequently are the characters out?

3. Anyone think its worth it to move the trip back a week?

Thanks

Nobody is answering you, so I'll put in my 2 cents. It is really a personal decision. Are your children boys or girls? If boys, then maybe they'd rather see the Star Wars characters. If girls, then I would be hard pressed to give up reservations at CRT.

But, and it is a big but, is Star Wars what you're taking them to Disney for? In my case, the answer is no. We'll be there during the Star Wars weekend (21st), but I'm debating whether to even go to MGM until the weekend is over and back to "normal".

Again, this is only an opinion.:)

Two things.

Characters

Don't expect to see many Star Wars characters, apart from in the parade. You sometimes get the odd SW character appear, but it has been my experience that they are not there very often.

If you really want to see the SW Characters then you're gonna need to change you vacation dates to tie in the SW Weekends.

The Dates of Star Wars Weekends

Prior to 2002 SW Weekends did start earlier in May, but after 2002 when LFL pulled the plug for one year due to their own SW convention, it appears that Disney have pushed the event back to the middle of May.

I don't know when you booked up, but the dates of SW Weekends have been around for quite some time.

We hit SW weekends last year. There were plenty of characters. Off the top of my head: Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Admiral Ackbar, ewoks, jawas, Boba Fett, the cantina band. There were great non-moving models of C3-PO and R2-D2 that looked like they came right off a movie set. They also had actors playing the actors (we didn't bother with these). They had separate meet and greet areas for the characters set up in the areas around star tours. We plan on going again this year since our vacation dates work out.

We've never done CRT so my opinion is going to be skeawed but if I could change my dates withour incurring any extra cost then I would. JMO.

I know what you mean. I'm a big Star Wars fan from back in the day, and I leave Disney on the 14. I guess MGM will be the park I see that day to see if there is any special pins or other merch to get only sold on those weekends.

We did SW weekend 3 years ago, and I, personally, will not go back to MGM on one of those weekends. The parade of characters was pretty cool, but the rest of the weekend was a zoo! And this coming from 2 SW fans (of course, my husband being the bigger fan!) We did get some cool collector's pins at the Tatooine Traders, but just getting inside the shop was a mess- they had meet & greets right around the entrance and the lines were massively long. When we had originally planned that trip, never in our wildest dreams did we know how popular the SW weekends were.

As far as the CRT reservations- it would be cool to go there, but there are other awesome character breakfasts at other places in the World (we like the one at GF and Chef Mickeys). If you're still just wanting to eat in the castle, but lose your PS at CRT, then opt for dinner there.

Have fun with the kids!
