Hello . I usally come around here and ask questions while Planning My family vacations to Wdw.

My Wife and I decided to buy into the Dvc.

We have been thinking about it for a few years and after going to the Local mall and seeing the presentation Decided it was a great deal.

We will be going back and closing in about two weeks and are planning on Buying 100 points at Saratoga Springs.

Nothing signed yet and we are Going to get in before the increase.

After coming here and reading some stuff about the Timeshare store I started to reconsider. Why not spend the same money and get a lot more points .

Anybody with any experience that could offer me some advice?? It would be really appreciated!!

What are the Pros and Cons to either?

Thank you . Im looking forward to hearing what you guys have to say!!

Pros- Much cheaper per point usually. Can buy into resorts that are "sold out" thru DVC. More bang for your buck
Cons- Closing takes a while longer before you can book a vacation. Closing costs more (only a little). You are now restricted on where you can use your resale purchased points. Contract is probably shorter.

We just bought Wilderness Lodge which is what we really wanted after talking with an official DVC rep (who was pleasant but made some veiled warnings about Disney buying our points thru ROFR). We compared and opted to go resale because we really wanted WL and got almost twice the points for the same $.
Go resale if you plan on just going to WDW or DL. There are a lot of points out there, shop around. The folks at The Timeshare Store were very helpful- give 'em a call.

One other difference - if 100 points is what you are looking for, your only option is the resale market.

The current minimum contract when buying direct is 160 points.

After talking to the Timeshare store we can save around $3000.00 to buy into Ak...Its really a No-brainer.

Dave,
thanks for the Help...its odd becasue i actually Got price quotes Directly from The Dvc for 100 pts. at A.K. , S.S. and Bay Lake ...maybe I misread the info???!!! Now im really confused. Either way we are waiting on the paper work from the Timeshare store...Looks like we are Buying 100 pts. at $82 a Point as compared to Direct from Dvc for $120 a point (current incentives are $6 off per point)...

DVC recently lowered the minimum buy-in to 100 points. Unless you are purchasing Bay Lake Tower, re-sale will be significantly less than buying direct from Disney. Was your offer accepted for AKV?

Yes we just got the adobe attachments and are faxing them back tommorow, sending hard copies with our 10% by weeks End.

They said as long as the paperwork is to Disney by March 18th we will still be grandfathered in.

Disney will have 30 days for the Right of first refusal process But Our saleman said That as long as we are paying whats considered the fair market value it usally goes thru No issues in about 3 weeks.

We should be Official members By Mid-April.

The kids are going nuts and to be honest so am I.

First trip this October for The kids Birthdays...Next trip Star Wars weekends 2012!!!!

Hmmm, I missed that news about the minimum.

Yep, here's the quote from dvcnews.com:

In recent years Disney Vacation Club has experimented with allowing new members to purchase less than the stated minimum of 160 points. 100-point initial contracts have been offered at select resorts for more than a year and Independent Sales Agents are currently permitted to sell contracts with as little as 50 points.

thanks Coach!!!!

My 5 year old son told everyone at the bus stop that We bought a House at Disney world!!

I feel like a 44 year old kid!!!

Ha, that is awesome! Good for you. We bought in last April and I am still giddy over it. :D
