Renting DVC points vs free DDP

I have booked the first week of Nov with the free DDP. That includes a 7 day park ticket and room at CBR. It seems a little overkill for me and my son. I think the price is decent but I don't need 7 days in the parks. I was thinking about maybe cancelling that and doing a DVC rental through David's. Has anyone booked with them before? I feel like I would waste a 7 day park ticket and I am not terribly crazy over CBR. I like it but I LOVE AKL and WL. I see the pricing for a studio in a DVC villa isn't bad with David's for that time of year. Any thoughts you guys have about this would be appreciated!

If you don't need the 7 day ticket, you should be able to change it to a ticket for shorter duration. As far as I know,
To make this work, the section during the free dining period must meet the 3-night and 2-day ticket criteria.
Plenty of people have rented through David's though, see the DVC board for other threads on it. Run the numbers, see what makes more sense.

I was worried about loosing the free dinning if I shorten the ticket. I think it is part of the package.

The Dining Plan is linked to the number of nights you have booked. It has no connection to the park ticket. (You just have to purchase the minimum 2-day park ticket, as mentioned above). You can call and change the number of days on the tickets with no penalty any time before the 45-day mark.

That being said, you should run the numbers for both types of booking and see which works out best for you. Also, you may find that availability at AKL is limited. You definitely should check to see if you can even book it before you cancel the Free Dining.

Good plan. I will call and decrease the number of park days.

Don't quote me but I think DVC and DVC renters do not get Free Dining option ... They are trying to fill rooms .. technically a DVC owner already "owns" a room ?

That's correct, but even without having the dining plan for free, it's quite possible that by renting DVC points you can break-even with a Free Dining promotion or even come out cheaper. it all depends on what you'll actually eat when you have to pay out-of-pocket for it vs. what you'd eat on the DDP. People who are trying to decide between the two choices should run both numbers for their specific traveling party and see which saves them money.

No by renting DVC I would not get a DDP. I have already booked a package with the DDP at CBR. I would be paying out of pocket for food and tickets by renting through David's DVC rentals. I will probably break even and have a nicer place to stay if I rent DVC.
