As you may of seen I posted a few days ago about Coronado springs for our honeymoon in november, all your posts were great and If we go that route it will be our choice.. But today I began to think about maybe renting DVC points and staying at a delux(maybe wilderness lodge or boardwalk).. Anyone have any reccomendations about this? We would be going for 10 days (just the 2 of us), need 7 day park tickets and 10 days of dining. From looking online (David's vacation club), it's about $13 a point, and 108 points for BWV, not sure if that's a good deal! Help please!

When you say 10 days of dining do you mean you want to do Disney Dining Plan? If so I'm not sure you can get it with rented DVC points. I think you have to book a Magic Your Way package to get DDP. If you are a DVC member you are eligible to book the DDP at the regular price even without a package, but that "benefit" probably does not extend to renters of points.

Dining plan aside, renting DVC points is probably a pretty good option. Using a site like Dave's seems less risky than renting direct from an owner. If you get lucky you could probably find a direct rental for a few dollars a point less. Since its your honeymoon you really don't want to risk the room falling through and you end up at the Motel 6 on International Drive;). For about the same price as a moderate you can stay at a deluxe resort (with less need for busses!!!) and the room will be nicer with a kitchen area and fridge. If you so choose, you could get some champagne, wine or beer delivered to your room to fill that fridge with;)

We rent DVC's every year. I always rent from the same owner. Last year we paid $10 a point, but this year it went up to $11 a point because DVC dues increased. The DVC owner can add the dining plan for you, just be prepared to put it on a credit card or disney gift card. I believe you can add the tickets at check in. While we are lucky and have an owner that we use, if you are nervous than I then Dave's and DVC rental store are both grate choices.

If you show up in Orlando and the people you paid scammed you, so you're out the money AND have no place to stay, will David pony up the dough for your hotel?

I'm guessing the answer is, "No," which is why I think it's a bad deal.

I know you might save money, but the little you save isn't worth the risk...at least IMO.

Actualy, while he will not pony up the dough, he will make it right.

When you sign on with a company like David's, he becomes a middle man. When an owner signs on with him, they sign a contract stating, in essence, that they will "follow the rules". In addition, you list him as an associate on your DVC contract, so when a buyer purchases points, HE makes the reservation. The buer then sends HIM the money which he holds in escrow until the vacation is complete. So yes, something could happen - a owner could cancel a reservation just before the person renting arrives, but the renters money would not be with the owner, it would be with David in escrow. He could then use his inventory of points to obtain a new room and pay THAT owner the money. He would then follow up with the original owner legally.

You save a LOT more by dealing directly with an owner, but that is where you do run into risks.

For part 2 of our honeymoon for this coming October, we rented points through David's (this is our first time renting). While you have to pay the full amount at the time the reservation is made, David's only gives the DVC member half of the amount and doesn't give the other half until you are checked into the resort. You are given the confirmation number that can be checked on the DVC member website. David's has a contract that both the member and renter have to agree to, basically stating that both parties will act in good faith. We are paying less than $200 a night (for the room, not per person) to stay in the EPCOT resort area durring F&W, a deal that we feel can't be beat. You can add the DDP to your reservation if you want (which you also have to pay for in full at the time you add it) and I don't think you need to buy tickets along with it (not 100% sure since we are not getting a dining plan). We personally buy our tickets seperately from UT.

If you have any questions or any uncertainty, you can always send an e-mail to David's. They are more than happy to answer your questions and are usually quick getting back to you.

I would really love to try this, but the "no cancellation" policy is a bit intimidating to me. So, that means we would have to figure in travel insurance with our final cost.
