Renting DVC points and MDE,FP+, Magic Bands?

We are going to be renting points for the first time next yr- we book Monday. (RIght on Mickey's bday! Hope that brings us some luck ;)) We are also getting tix via Undercover Tourist. Also a first... so here is my question:

Will I be able to link the room reservation to MDE since it will be in my name as the primary guest?

Can I set up the Magic Express myself? The owner said she has made all the ME for her renters in the past and is not sure I can even do it myself. I don't mind if she does it, I'm just curious.

I can get Magic Bands, right? I'm on site... I want to be able to customize them and I won't be getting the tix until April or so. (before the price hike) So - I know I can link the UT tix to MDE, but- when I do that, will the room ressie be on my MDE so I can customize my Magic Bands??? I don't want to get there and all have the generic band. My kids would love colorful ones w their names! When can you customize your Magic Bands? Is that also a 60 day out thing? I know it gets sent to your house, so when do you do it? And I want to be able to set up our FP+ (which I know is 60 days out...)

Anyone who can shed some light for me? I'd appreciate it... never done DVC rental bf & with all the new MDE/FP+ stuff it is confusing! All these rules! lol
TIA :D

We rented points also.

Once I got the confirmation number, I could link it to MyDisneyExperience with no problems. (*ALMOST no problems. MDE recognized the confirmation number and correctly displays all the details, but the dining reservation system did not recognize it as an on-site reservation. It almost lost me my most important ADRs because on the morning my 180-day window opened, I had to wait until the phone lines opened up to make them: I couldn't do it online. The CM I spoke with said that this is a common issue with WDW's computer systems, and not necessarily the result of my having gone through DVC. If you're nervous about that, call ahead to the dining people and have them fix it for you ahead of time, if possible.)

When you get your tickets, there should be a number on them that you can use to link to your MDE account. Once you've done that, 60 days or more before your trip, you should get a notification from WDW (some don't get one, they just suddenly find that their MDE links to "customize" their MagicBands and make FP+s have become active, so keep checking) that if you want, you can now customize your MagicBands. Once you've done that, they'll be mailed to you (if time allows before your trip).

YES. I have 2 DVC point rental reservations coming up and I linked them to my MDE using the confirmation number I got after I rented the points. They showed up right away.

NO. The member has to do it for you.

This one I'm not sure about. We have Annual Passes so the bands showed up for us right at the 60-day mark and I've made our FP+ selections. Now that I re-read @Weather_Lady post the mention of linking tickets does ring a bell - I linked our APs to the MDE website before I was able to do anything. When you go to link tickets they'll have pictures of the different ticket types, which (hopefully) should make it easy to find the number you need to enter. But I'm pretty sure you can't get the bands without having tickets linked first.

Actually, Bands and linked tickets are two separate things.

To get a Band, all you have to have is a Disney resort reservation. You'll get a Band even if you have no intention of stepping foot in a park. It'd be your room key and your charging account.

But,if order to get access to FP+ you need to link your tickets to your profiles *and* you (for the time being) have to have a MagicBand assigned to you.

oooooo- So linking the room is the "key" to getting the band... correct?
And the band really links your MDE to you? so anything you want to control w the band you have to have linked to your MDE?

Yes. Adding the room confirmation to your MDE is what is key to your getting the band. Without the room ressie (at least under the current "testing" situation) the system doesn't know you rate a band. But the band just gets tagged to your MDE account. Band, KTTW, both point back to you. The ticket gets assigned to you, and not the band, so you could switch between different bands different days of the week and no problem. So not only does Mickey know what you did at WDW, they also know what you watched on ESPN.go.com, and any other go.com property they own.
