Rental Car v. Cabs

We are flying to DW in July for 12 days. We will be going to Universal 2 times and Sea World once. What are your thoughts on cab v. car? Round trip from airport and 3 trips to relatively the same area. We have a 3 yr old so would have to bring the carseat anyway.
Thanks,
Merriweather

Rent a car especially since you are going off Disney Property. You can probably get an awesome rate for July. It would be so much easier and you can even rent car seats from the car rental agency. Remember National Car Rental is the official car rental agency of Walt Disney World.:lookaroun

rental car is the only way to go espically with a child. it is much faster to get back to your hotel when you need to, with a rental then waiting for either a cab or disney transportation.

I definitely agree... get that rental car! That's the only way I do it when I go... I like my independence, and it's so worth it in the end. I can hop in my car and even go to the drug store outside Disney when I need something, even bottled water... that way you're not so dependent on transportation provided by Disney, and your choices are limited as far as where you can go with WDW Trans. Also, since you're going off the property, it's highly recommended to get a rental. Call now for best prices & reserve. Also, I always make sure the rental car place is in the airport terminal... that makes it easier for me too, rather than having to get on a bus to get to the car rental place. Hertz is not in the airport terminal... you have to take a bus to get there, to rent your car.
We're going July too!! 11 more weeks!! :sohappy:

Definitely get the car. It'll allow you greater freedom and could even work out more economical than cabs. I got a really good rate from Holiday Autos (I'm also going in July).

I'm Surrounded by Idiots
I would go with the car. It is much easier to get around in a car than it is a cab. My family always rents a car and you don't have to wait around the airport for the cab when you get there you can get to your car and get to your hotel quicker.

The cab will cost a fortune for all you are doing.

But this kind of thing is very easy to price too.

Go to the cab sites and they have the prices from the Disney resorts to the airport, universal, and seaworld. Then find what the cost of the rental car is and compare. Find out which is a better value. But it seems like the rental car will be the best bet.

One word of caution about the Cabs... they can be death traps... I can't tell you how many red lights and stop sights I've seen Checker Cabs run through... and then cut me off and nearly cause an accident... (with guests on board)..

This happens to me on a daily basis... I'm getting ready to write a letter of complaint to Checker Cabs (they seem to be the main worst ones)... it's funny though... thier parent company, Mears... the Mears Shuttle and Bus drivers are the most polite drivers!

*shrug* Just beware of the cabs...

Rent a car. When my son was young, riding in the car was a great way to catch a nap. My son is 15 now and still catches a nap when we get in the car to go to remote locations. Running non-stop in the July-August heat can wear you out.

Another vote for renting a car.

I've done it thrice and never regretted it. If you shop around, you'll find a good price.

We used a company called PayLess and got a week for $186 total (including tax and whatever other charges they do). Since it was spring break, I kind of found out in a nice way that they were holding the smaller cars for the college kids and willingly giving out upgrades for us middle-aged family men.

We were supposed to get a Ford Focus (at least what I booked for), was told when I checked in that I was getting a Mustang (which I thought was very cool), then the gal handed me the keys to a Caravan.

I have no problem with this since I regularly drive a Windstar. Plus instead of cramming 10 people into 2 mid-size cars (we already had one car drive down from Atlanta), we now had plenty of luxurious space for all of us.

Check Travelocity and Orbitz. I used one of them to book the reservation (and can't remember which). But I'm sure you'll find a great rate that'll totally wipe out any thoughts of using cabs.
