It depends upon the time of year you are going. I would do a little searching around on travelocity or if you have any of the frequent renter cards, like National's Emerald Aisle, sometimes you can get some good deals, I know when I went in May it cost me about $17 a day because I had the card.

In general, the best rental car places at the airport are actually OFF airport property.

Due to charges the rental companies have to pay to be on airport property, the lowest prices I have found were plaes that will shuttle you offsite to pick up your car. This can save a bit of cash, but will also require more time at airport arrival and departure.

Also, be sure to go online and sign up for any of the rental car companies' VIP Clubs or something to save a little extra.

Alamo, National, and L&M were the cheapest for my family when we went this past May. That was for a minivan though, so it probably isn't the same if you are just looking for a sedan.

Just be careful of the smaller companies because they tend not to have 24/7 hours, so depending on when you are arriving that may be an issue.

I think it was Alamo that we got one year and it was crappy. (We got some kind of mini vanish) It was like 5 years ago and it was horrible.

Alamo doesn't build cars. Just be more careful when picking your car. If you don't like the model, switch or if it's a pick a car like most are now -- don't take the one you don't like. Almost all companies have the same cars. Some are more Japancentric, Fordish, Cryslerlike, or Chevian, but they just use the cars that are on the market. Not all companies offer just BMWs, Mercedes, or Jags. And if they do, you won't get one if you order a Midsize. If you got a van you didn't like, maybe you don't like GM vans. We didn't like the Buick van we got last time. That doesn't mean I won't rent Alamo again, I just won't buy a Buick van! There are no Mazda/Avis car factories. If you don't like a model car -- usually each rental company offers 2-3 if not more alternatives for each car size.
