Rental Car praise

I booked a rental car through Dollar Car Rental earlier this year. While I have never rented from them before I figured that I would give it a shot since I planned on getting their insurance instead of using my own this time. That way it doesn't matter if I get a ding in the door from some near-sighted person parking too close to me at the parks. My original price was $478 for a 10 day rental on a full-size car. I just went back to reconfirm my reservations and add an AMVETS discount that I just found out about. I ended up not being able to use the discount, but I got the rental for the new price of $213 for a 10 day rental on a full-size car. Nice!! :joyfull:

Now I have to go back through the trip details and see where else I can save money. LOL

Hello!
I was curious if you'd taken this trip yet, and what your thoughts/experience was using Dollar?
I am booked with them for an upcoming trip and a little nervous after reading reviews.
Any info would be great!

My experience with Dollar was amazing. We got off of the plane, and loaded our luggage on to a rolling cart. Then we went down to the rental car location in the garage. I fully expected to have to turn down multiple sales attempts to get me to upgrade to a bigger vehicle or take extra insurance. However, I experienced none of that. She asked for my rental agreement, and my credit card. She put all the information into the computer and sent me down a row to pick out my own car. After much deliberation between a Ford Fusion and a Nissan Altima, I decided to go with a Ford Fusion. We loaded up with our luggage and I drove to the exit. At the exit the lady in the cashier booth took my credit card again and my rental agreement, and the paperwork the lady at the front booth gave me, and then handed me back a receipt with a hold for $250 on my credit card. Then we were off and on our way to Disney. At the end of the rental I drove the car back, pulled down a long line of cars sitting with their trunks open after having been returned, and dropped the car off. We got out, loaded our luggage, onto a rolling cart. A man came along and asked for my drivers license and he got in to the car to check fuel levels, mileage, and several other things, got out of the car, and handed me a printed receipt from a handheld device and we were on our way to the airplane.

I should also mention that we are signed up for the Dollar Express membership. Its free and it lets you skip the counter.

Thank you!
I have signed up for their Dollar Express as well, because I read that that should help diminish the possibility of the sales tactics to get you to buy additional insurance or upgrades.
Hearing your experience has helped calm my nerves about it. I appreciate your feedback!

Love hearing there's rolling carts. Are they pretty accessible? We'll have 3 suitcases plus stroller and car seat (and hopefully a sleeping child, we get in so late) that being able to put all our stuff on a cart would be awesome!

Were the condition of the cars pretty good? Somewhat newer, fairly clean, etc?

The vehicles are all 2013 and clean. I think our Ford Fusion had around 43,000 on it. It was a very nice car. As for the carts, they are $4 to $5 each and you can get some near baggage claim and return it down by the rental cars. You may have to look around for the cart rental spot down there, but it is there.

Also, since you are a Dollar Express Member you can skip the long lines at the counter. Just get your luggage and head out to the garage. Follow the signs for Dollar and head up to the window. Don;t worry if you do not see your name on the LED board outside the window. I did not see mine either and I still had no problems.

We've rented from Dollar several times and have always had good experiences with them. Never a bad car - always clean and very good service. I suggest you never settle for the first price that you get - their rates change daily, and check the city specials on their website.

Thanks for the tips on the luggage carts! The small fee will be worth it!

So we can go straight to the garage after picking up our luggage? There's a desk out there for Express members?
That's nice to skip the counter completely!

Thanks for the input!! Definitely making me feel better!

I modified my reservation twice after noticing a lower price. I think I saved a total of $80. We have a full size rental for 6 days for $138.
Compared to the other "big name" car companies, that's at least half the price!
Which I'm thrilled about.
