I have a question about car rental. Is it easier to get a vehicle once you are on property (taking advantage of disney express) or should you just pick up at the airport? Also, which companies do you suggest? Alamo, Hertz, etc??

It's usually cheaper picking up at MCO than off-site. Once in WDW, your selections are considerably limited. Alamo/National operate out of the Car Care Center, Avis out of the WDW Hilton in Downtown Disney, and Dollar out of the Grosvenor Resort in Downtown Disney.

We rented a car for cheaper at the Car Care Center. Just call the office of Alamo and they will send a van to come and pick you up from the hotel you are staying at. We found the rate from the CCC cheaper than from the airport, we saved about $150 going with CCC on a vehicle that was a major upgrade from what we were going for. You may not save that much money but everytime I looked it was always cheaper at CCC especially if you are using DME.

Remember there is a rental location at the Dolphin, so if you are in the Epcot Resort area, its a very convenient location to walk to.

It is cheaper at the Car Care Center because you don't pay the airport fees, Alamo/National are there. We used this last time I was down and the van picked us up at the hotel and we got the car. Since we wanted to drop the car off later than the CCC was open, we were able to drop it off with the valet at the Swan or Dolphin hotel (I forget which) at any time and there was no extra fee involved, just handed him the keys, he gave me a receipt for the car and I was done.

Forgot to add, we returned the car to the airport when we were leaving because our flight was at 7 am and we had to be at the airport so early. Plus it was our ride back to the airport since we were not going to use DME on the way home.

that's true, but then the companies usually charge higher rates to go off-airport

If you book on line before you get there it is less than when you arrive which is always the case, even at the airport. Also, I found that the CCC happens to have all these larger sized vehicles, so even if you book a compact car, your chances of actually getting one are slim, you'll probably be upgraded to a larger one at no cost, so don't let them talk you into upgrading, just say you'll stick with what you have. I noticed that they were trying to upsell everyone. Also, if you have National's Emerald Aisle and book on line it is far cheaper. When I rented in December there was a $20 price difference because I had the EA. I know Alamo has something like that too.

I also know that with the rental car service in Disney Alamo I believe has 2 numbers a 1-800 and a direct number. When we called the direct number they gave us a price that was about $30 more then the price we got through the 1-800 number. So it maybe in your best interest to call both numbers and check the rates through each of them
