That's an original piece of concept art for the park.

Note how the rapids ride in Asia is juse plain huge, and how Camp Minnie Mickey looks more like Beastly Kingdom

It's really ashame that they didn't go through with this version of Kali River Rapids. The current version is so beautiful and has some of the best theming I have ever seen but in the end, it is a huge letdown. It is just too short!

I agree--fantastic theming, but it is far too short of a ride, but I still like it better than Grizzly River Run--while this ride is much longer, it has minimal theming--you get the mountain and almost nothing else, so I prefer Kali to that, but it could have used a longer route. It's such an exciting ride, especially when your raft approaches the big drop...but then it's over so quickly.

I'm definitely impressed. This park was planned to be beautiful through and through--so, naturally, we got a scaled down park that is still the most amazingly themed, beautiful park Disney has ever built. It is clear that Everest will continue this trend. I really have to hand it to Joe Rohde--he has this all down, and people are slowly understanding how amazing this park is; it certainly has a FAR brighter future than, say, California Adventure--while I love Cali Adventure, it still doesn't have the magic of Animal Kingdom, which really seems to tie all of the other disney world parks together. We get the fantasy of the Magic Kingdom (will get more of it come 2006), the thrill of the movies come to thrilling, even frightening levels, and we see the beauty of the world through Epcot's lens, with close attention to every detail...plus, of course, we finally get a park dedicated to Walt's love of wildlife. That is why I truly think this would be Walt's favorite park.

I couldn't agree more. Borrowing from the Disney movie "Aladdin", Disney's Animal Kingdom has always been a "diamond in the rough". It's always been my favorite WDW theme park. I'm hoping with all the new attention focused on it, more people will visit and appreciate it for what it is now and what it will be in the near future. Go ahead and enjoy the rides, but take time to notice the tranquill side of the park too. It's a park that can excite and soothe at the same time. My hats off to every imagineer that worked on this great park, and hope that those in the future are true to the parks integrity.

YEAH!!! GO DISNEY!:sohappy: DCA and AK are probably both "Diamonds in the Rough" because they are both good theme parks, but they have a little lack of things. They will improve very much I can assure you. Look at EPCOT, it started out as a boring theme park with nothing but education. But now, it is alot more fun and has education still, but uses it in a fun way. Because look, it has Test Track, and now Mission: Space. DCA and AK will improve very much.

Yeah...Mission: SPACE will really help to redefine Epcot; it shows the unity of nations while DEFINITELY allowing guests to discover the future of space travel...should be very kewl. 97 days till I blast off!

Actually Kali started out as a water safari, a real life Jungle Cruise.....but then budget cuts and you know the rest.....a short rapids ride.

I know that, but it ORIGINALLY was going to be like Kilimanjaro Safaris, but in the water.......a boat of people with a guide and all.

I just finished reading "Since the WOrld Began" and it was written before AK opened and was still in the works and the stuff on Beastly Kingdom looks awesome! I mean they had a giant hedge maze and a rollercoaster planned from what I could tell. They were opening AK as a park for present, past, and imaginary animals(the logo having a dragon). I wish they had gone through with this it looked awesome!

Yeah, you can see that roller coaster at IOA. It's called Deuling Dragons.

This is a common misconception. From the concept art you can see the dragon coaster would have been more like what Everest is going to be rather than what was built at IOA. The only thing that IOA 'borrowed' from AK was using the word Dragon for their coaster name.

Very true. I don't know why this rumor has continued on for so long like it has. Nothing was stolen from Disney and the rides would have been NOTHING alike. This is just one of those urban legends that will never die I guess. :)
