Render an AVI small enough to share

Hello

I have been struggling with the bug-ridden program that is Pinnacle Studio 8 to edit my Disney World holiday video. They are taken on a Hi-8 camcorder and captured to PC with the Pinnacle DC10 card.

Before I investigate how to upload to #Disney-central to share them I need to render the projects to a smaller size.

I have downloaded .avi files of a good quality that are a 150 to 300 or so Megs per half hour. Studio cannot make an AVI anywhere near this small and the MPEGs it renders are dreadful. I have tried contacting Pinnacle support, but they just post the FAQs then close the call.

So, is there a bit of freeware / adware around that can let me render an AVI of decent quality and low size?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the pointer.

I Have the DIVX codecs on my PC and have just tried to use them to render through Studio, but the results are so far not promising. I'm testing it on a sixty second clip, but after the first few seconds it becomes like a slide show with just a couple of pictures a second. I'll keep experimenting with the settings, but if anyone has some pointers I'm happy to hear them.

I would stay away from pinnacle. Like you said it is bug ridden. I use Ulead VideoStudio 7 and am very happy with it. There is a 30 trial dnld on their site.

When I have finished the current project (Been on it for the better part of three months) I'll give Ulead a try.

Well, it can't be worse than that POS that is Studio 8. I've tried using the DIVX codec, but studio makes a complete mess of it.

LoL....premiere is actually pretty straight foward. Its pretty simple and has advanced functionality for those who wish to explore it to its fullest extents. Plus there are DOZENS of books on how to use it.

Premiere costs over £400. I'm afraid that puts it well out of my price bracket. Ulead is more in my league. The cost of that title is about the same as the cost of a Premiere book
