Remembering

Not sure if you want to keep this here but thought I would post it anyway.
This past weekend, my wife and I went to WDW with some friends. We stayed at Dixie Landings, yes I cannot get used to calling it Port Orleans. This brought back a flood of memories, and maybe some of you can relate.
When we lived in upstate NY, (a couple of years ago), we started coming down for extended stays about 10 years ago. We stayed at Dixie Landings for most of those times. As we walked around the resort, I remembered the kids when they were 10-8-and 5, squealing and jumping into the pool when we first got there. They were always so well behaved, the look in their eyes when we would get near the parks, was pure excitment. The days spend were such a joy and one adventure would lead to another, and the kids would just eat it up. As they got older, of course, the excitment tempered but each year brought a new dimension for them. The first time they got to go off on our own, and come back on the bus, the first boys they met, and liked, ggrrrrrrrr. We did stay once at CB, but it was DL that we will always have a fondness for, like a first love. All the places that we went in the resort brought back a memory of the kids when they were with us. I was saddened at first, for those days when the kids were at that age when Disney was so exciting for them, and us watching them. We will never get to live that again with them, but have those great memories. Ones that relive often with video.
We now belong to the DVC so we don't get back to DL that much, but we do live in Florida, and enjoy Disney much more than we did before. I just want to say to cherish every moment you are there with your kids, because that won't happen again, and all you will have are those sweet memories that will stay with you forever. Those are great memories to have.

What a pleasant post to read. Thanks!

As a newly turned 21yo, who still enjoys every family vacation, especially to WDW, I know what you mostly mean. Caribbean Beach was our "first love" in the resort world, and we stayed with her for 11 trips (also at DL, Dolphin, and Yacht). Each year there, we remember the frolicking and great memories we have, even tho the excitement has not died down for my family. My sister and I still give emotion through our face, and I sometimes catch my parents looking at it. It's a great place for memories to be made and cherished.

I am very excited for having a family of my own to head to WDW, and cannot wait for my future children to enjoy the trip AND take my parents down with us from time to time.

I'm glad that you and I both, including others, have memories such as these to remember. We are fortunate.

WOW - that was really nice, and hit really close to home for me too....

I'm 23 now, but my family (parents, brother, and I) went to WDW just about every other year, starting when I was 6. Once they built Dixie Landings, we found it and LOVED it. We stayed there 2 times, then the third time my parents stayed at the resort and just my bro and I went to the parks.

Then the next year just my bro and I went, drove down alone, etc. Then last year, my bro and I and 2 friends went down. It just wasn't the same as going with the family, and I know my parents loved taking us - because my bro and I REALLY loved it.

What helped us was by taking our 2 friends, who had never been - it was like taking kids, heehee. They were overwhelmed!

Anyway, thanks for the post :-)

What a nice post to read! Well, I'm still young (19) but I have been to WDW so many times w/my family. Luckily when I was younger we got a video camera, so we have many vacations on tape to remember! We stayed many places when we went. But our favorite was the cabins at Fort Wilderness! Looking around there reminds me of the fun stuff we did. Seeing the pool reminded me of when they sprayed for bugs and mom had to rush me back to the cabin because I was allergic. lol. Even at the parks, I can remember stuff from areas of it. And I know I could sit and watch people all day long down there. I love to people watch. To see other families making wonderful memories!
