Remember to appreciate the life you have

I just wanted to let everyone know to appreciate their lives and everything they have. I had a rough day today at work where I had a mom come into the ER telling me she was going to sign in her son. I asked her what was wrong and she said they were at Disney and noticed he had a lot of bruises and that he was rather playful so she wasn't surprised. She said they drove from Massachusetts and on the car ride he would be kicking his legs and probably got some bruises from that. I was like "ok..." and then the father brings in the boy a few minutes later.:eek::eek:

He was COVERED in bruises all over his body and she mentioned he was not eating and when she brushed his teeth they were bleeding a lot. I didn't say anything to her since I am not qualified to make a diagnosis but I suspected leukemia or something right off the bat. I found out later that the little boy did indeed have a bad form of cancer after the blood tests came back.. The parents seemed OK and had maintained good composure.

So folks, remember that life is precious and your health is everything. Make sure you appreciate everything and live everyday like it's your last.

I posted a similar thought earlier in the evening on a premium member area. I'm going to share my same thoughts here, though.

This was my response to myself after lamenting about how stressful it is to coordinate buying and selling of houses. I may be worried about making ends meet in the interim, but these people are watching their child die:

As stressed as I may be, I do have to count the blessings around me, and I don't always do that enough. We have friends who have a sick child who is doing much better, and they gave us a website to another family who they met while in the hospital in Boston. Her story breaks my heart and drove me to tears tonight. It's sad, but it puts things in perspective. I think we all need perspective from time to time.
