Reliable Transportation

Well, our plans are all set and we have scheduled a moving date!!!:sohappy: :sohappy: We will be Orlando residents in just a few short weeks.
My husband has taken a job with a trucking company, and I will continue to be a full time mom. My mother, however, who is also moving with us (she's retired) has had a long time dream of becoming a Disney cast member and wants me to take her to casting the day we arrive so she can apply for a job. She is willing to do anything so long as she can work at Disney.
My question is: she has a learner's permit, but not her drivers lisence yet. Since I do not work outside the home, I am always available to drive her wherever she needs to go. Does her lack of a personal car and driver's lisence hinder her chances of employment??? I know they want you to have reliable transportation, but IMO, she does: ME! Will they frown on this? Also, I am concerned that as an older, retired person, she will not have as good a chance as the younger applicants, afterall, walking around a theme park all day can be exhausting!!! She is in good health and is only 58. What do you think??? Any advice to help her would be great. She has her heart set on this, poor girl!, LOL!!

There are lots of retirement age people working at Disney World. I don't think it will reduce her chances at all. There are a wide variety of positions available and if she has any physical requirements they can find something that works for her.

There is no rule that cast members must own cars. If she has reliable transportation she'll be fine. Transportation positions (bus, monorail, watercraft) require a driver's license but most other areas do not.

During my interview, when we got to transportation talk, my recruiter asked "Do you have a reliable way to get here?" Nothing more about what that way was, so I assume it doesn't matter.

I'd say that a third of WDW CMs are over age 50. I really think the number could be pretty high based on what I have seen & heard. I'd say her chances are great.

It's really no challenge to get hired at WDW, with only a couple of surface questions about availability & pay, I was hired. No kidding! Nothing in-depth or eliminating at all.

She could do almost anything! I met a retired couple who worked special events together as "ushers" to put it some way...
She could work at the stores, inside the parks or Downtown Disney, or as a "ticket taker", etc. I´ve seen a lot of "mature" people working in many areas in WDW. She´ll have fun! (and a cm discount) :animwink:

Yep! I guess that will be my "payment" for driving her back and forth to work all the time! Getting my souveniers from Grandma at a discount!!!!
