Very interesting that Pirates 3 will be opening in in May instead of July like the last two have been. Still, the earlier the better. :sohappy:

Not just that, but at the same time as Shrek 3, and Spiderman 2. Good grief, that's gonna make interesting box office numbers. If I were Disney, I'd move up the release date by atleast a month to reduce competition.

Personally I think they should go for 7/13, which at the moment is open but that could change if Fantastic Four 2 or Transformers move from their 7/4 spot. Memorial Day Weekend is way too crowded to open in, with the second weekend of Shrek 3 and the opening of Used Guys (which could be pretty big).

If that doesn't change I think Used Guys and Shrek might get hurt...

Shrek 2 proved that it could stand up to the $85m 4-day opening of The Day After Tomorrow in its second weekend and the $93m opening of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in its third, so I'm not too worried about Shrek 3. Pirates could still open that weekend and do ok, but the drop-off from the second will probably be bigger than it should be (it's almost guaranteed to drop from DMC, just like The Matrix Revolutions and Back to the Future Part III did). Now that I think about it, the situation is a bit similar to right now with DMC opening the week after Superman Returns does (although that one is going to go either way).

Another thing I just noticed --- Enchanted opens on the same day as Bee Movie. That will need to move too....

This is every "big" movie that is currently scheduled for summer '07:

10,000 B.C.
Battle Angel
The Bourne Ultimatum
Evan Almighty
Fantastic Four 2
Halo
Land of the Lost
Pirates of the Caribbean 3
Ratatouille
Rush Hour 3
Shrek 3
Spider-Man 3
Surf's Up
The Transformers
Used Guys

If Indy IV makes it for November/December (though I still think Memorial Day '08 is the way to go), it will probably be the biggest year ever.

If POTC 2 turns out to be fantastic and not dissapointing like Matrix Reloaded was, Pirates 3 should clobber the competition. I expect that it will go neck to neck with Spiderman 3, but POTC will do better over all. Evan Almighty has flop written all over it. Fantastic Four 2, should do okay on its first weekend, but then drop because the first one wasn't that great. Halo should only attract teen audiences that played the game. Video game movie adaptions usually suck though... Tough call on Rush Hour 3. Shrek 3 should do good, but POTC will prevail probably. Very interested to see what the end results will be like...

This is a real dangerous move on Disney's part. I honestly would not try and go toe-to-toe with Shrek, I honestly believe (even tho' I've disliked both Shreks) that this will be the movie of the summer. Spider-Man has also become a huge force to deal with....

I hate to say this, but did Pirates 2 come out and I totally missed something? I'm sorry, but I wasn't a huge fan of the first one and watched it reluctantly due to my father...I think it was okay and Johnny(sp?) Depp played a very interesting part...but he tends to have a knack for picking good parts (which might be debateable, but Edward Scissorhands was amazing).

Out of that list, I see Rush Hour 3 and Transformers as the low end of the movies....some of them I haven't heard of and I think Fantastic Four will due okay, but nothing amazing. The Bourne Ultimatum I'm assuming is a new sequel for the Jason Bourne character? If so, then I am excited about this....the second one had some of the fastest scene cutting I've ever seen in a fight scene. Amazing. Land of the Lost is another low end of the spectrum film, while I see Halo sitting around the same numbers as Fantastic Four.

Who knows tho', thanks for giving me stuff to look up...I need trailers now.....

I wouldn't necessarily bet on that. Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 are numbers 6 and 9 on the all-time top US box office list (respectively) and Shrek 2 is number 3. Whereas Pirates of the Caribbean is back at number 21. So I would be surprised to see Pirates 3 beat either of those franchises, assuming all three movies really fire on all cylinders and none of them bomb. Suppose it all depends on how well Pirates 2 does this Summer...

...which oughtta answer your question, too!

Now then, anyone know when American Dog (Chris Sanders' current project) is supposed to come out? That's the one I'm looking forward to BIG TIME. Oh yeah, and I've never even heard of Used Guys. What the heck is that?

American Dog is an '08 film, I believe.

As for Used Guys, here's the plot outline from IMDB:

Plot Outline: Years from now, as women run the Earth, two obsolete pleasure clones go on a desperate search for the male nirvana known as Mantopia.

Jay Roach (Austin Powers Trilogy, Meet the Parents & Meet the Fockers) + Ben Stiller + Jim Carrey = $$$

Well, the first POTC has had some of the hightest DVD sales of all time, so its hard to tell. It has a huge fan base and it appeals more to a family audience, so its possible. But who knows. Only time will tell.

As for used guys, all I can say for the plot line is.... ?!!?!?!?! That is one of the most bizaar things I have ever read. I can pretty much tell now which movie will make the most money.
